<br />December 12. 2006 <br /> <br />At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, December 12, 2006, there <br />were present: <br /> <br />Mayor James W. Holley, III, Vice Mayor Marlene W. Randall, William E. Moody, Jr., <br />Stephen E. Heretick, Elizabeth M. Psi mas, Ray A. Smith, Sr., Douglas L. Smith, City <br />Manager James B. Oliver, Jr., Senior Deputy City Attorney George M. Willson. <br /> <br />06 - 562 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br />"Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City Council <br />Chamber, 801 Crawford Street, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, December 12, 2006 for the <br />purpose of a Public Work Session. <br /> <br />In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />06 - 563 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: <br /> <br />1. Public Safety Briefing <br /> <br />2. FY 2007-2008 Budget Presentation <br />Boat Tax Briefing <br /> <br />06 - 564 - Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to go into Closed <br />Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711 (A) of the Code of Virginia, to <br />consult: <br /> <br />- with legal counsel and staff members pertaining to pending or threatened <br />litigation and specific legal matters, as per subsection 7. <br /> <br />The subject matter of the meeting will be several pending EEOC discrimination <br />claims. <br /> <br />The purpose of the meeting IS to permit confidential discussion of legal <br />strategy. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Psi mas, Randall, D. Smith, R. Smith, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. D. Smith, and seconded by Ms. Psimas, pursuant to Section 2.2- <br />3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' <br />knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: <br /> <br />1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting <br />requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and <br /> <br />2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion, by which <br />the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in <br />the meeting by the City Council. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br />
