<br /> ,The ~artment ~O~ Criminal Jusfice ~Se~rvices -(~DCJS ) has
<br />awarded~be ~City a continuation of the In~tensified .Drug En~
<br />forcement3Assistance (IDEA~ grant. ~This th~ird year continuation
<br />will allow the Police Department to deploy 5,440 man-hours of
<br />energetic ~lice support fdr-~xis~ing~civic patrols. These
<br />citizen volunteer/police patrols will be continued in
<br />Tri-Nei~hborhood, Cradock, and Cavalier Manor target areas. The
<br />~ount~of the ~rant.is $201,8~5~ ~DCJS wilI provide 75~3~f the
<br />fund~, or~$151,369~~ The Ci%y%s matcki~g fund will.be 25%, or
<br />$50,456. These funds will extend Curr~nt operations through June
<br />30, 1984.

<br /> Additionally, the ~partment of Criminal Justice Services
<br />(DCJS) has awarded the City a continuation of the Drug Saturation
<br />Patrol grant. This five-month extension will allow the Police
<br />Department to deploy approximately 2,700 man-hours for drug
<br />enforcement patrols; wi~hemphasis in Ida Barbour, Fairwood Hpmes,
<br />Dale Homes, Line~lR~Park, and Swanson. Hom~s. The ~o~nt of the
<br />~rant is $61,916. DCJS will provide 75% of the funds, or $46,437.
<br />The CitF's matching funds will be 25~ or $15,479.. Th~se~
<br />will extend current operations through November 3~0, I'9~93~~
<br />
<br /> Street-level drug dealing traditionatty~shows a~si~Dificamt
<br />increase during warm weather months, so these grants will allow
<br />the Police Department to con~inu~ .to ~xer~ prgssure one,rug
<br />dealers. Given the need for con~in~ous drug enforcement patrols
<br />in~high~ntensi~y dru~ dealings-areas, I reco~end the ~-ransfer of
<br />$263,741 from the Grants Contingency At,count-to cover the City's
<br />financial obligations under these programs."

<br /> assist the City in complying with the Chesapeake BaY~ACt.

<br /> "The Planning Department has been a~arded a $30,000 grant
<br /> from the Chesapeake Bay Local Assistance Department to cover costs
<br /> of~6mplyin~ wl~h the Chesapeake Bay~Preservation Act. The grant
<br /> will be ma~ched with $30;~000 of in-kind, services provided by the
<br /> Planning Staff. No cash.~utlay will be reqgire~. This Grant was
<br /> approved to pay the salary of a planner fo review deveiopmen~
<br /> proposals-'req~ired.under the. Bay Act.
<br />
