<br />October 10. 2006 <br /> <br />NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of <br />Portsmouth, Virginia, requests that the Commonwealth of Virginia Department of <br />Transportation establish the following five urban system highway projects as part of <br />their Six Year Improvement Program: <br /> <br />1. Intersection Upgrades - Portsmouth Blvd and Airline Blvd, (UPC # T4209), for <br />the improvement of the signalization at the intersection of Portsmouth Blvd at Airline <br />Blvd. <br />2. Airline Blvd Coordinated Signal Upgrades (UPC # T4208), for improvement of the <br />signal systems along Airline Blvd between Victory Blvd the city limits line <br />3. Equipment Support for Shuttle Bus Service (UPC # T4207), for the purchase of <br />equipment to create a downtown shuttle bus service <br />4. Downtown Portsmouth Shuttle Bus Service, Phase 1 (UPC # T4210), for two <br />years of operational support for the downtown shuttle bus service. <br />5. Downtown Portsmouth Shuttle Bus Service, Phase 2 (UPC # T4211), for one <br />year of operational support for the downtown shuttle bus service. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia <br />hereby agrees to pay its share of the total cost for preliminary engineering, right-of-way <br />acquisition, and construction of these projects in accordance with Section 33.1-44 of the <br />Code of Virginia, and that if the City of Portsmouth subsequently elects to cancel any of <br />these projects, the City of Portsmouth hereby agrees to reimburse VDOT for the total <br />amount of the costs expended by VDOT through the date VDOT is notified of such <br />cancellation. <br /> <br />BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the City Manager is authorized to execute the <br />necessary contracts, agreements, and any other documents necessary to accomplish <br />the work described herein." <br /> <br />Ayes: Psimas, Randall, D. Smith, R. Smith, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />- New Business - <br /> <br />06 - 476 - Boards and Commissions <br /> <br />Vice Mayor Randall offered the following nominations: <br /> <br />SOUTHEASTERN PUBLIC SERVICE AUTHORITY-(SPSA) <br /> <br />Gary S. Leggett to be appointed to the SPSA Citizens Advisory Committee, <br />beginning October 10, 2006, replacing Susan T. Hansen. <br /> <br />Motion by Ms. Randall, and seconded by Ms. Psimas, to close the nominations, <br />and the above nominations were adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Psimas, Randall, D. Smith, R. Smith, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />06 - 477 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />'" Councilwoman Psimas, as liaison to the Light Duty Committee along with <br />Councilman Heretick, gave a report on the progress of the committee. <br /> <br />06 - 478 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />There were no pending items. <br />
