SeDtember 15, 1993 <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Clemons, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, to <br />adopt the following ordinance and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE CLOSING A PORTION OF AN ALLEY BETWEEN <br />BERTRAND STREET AND ARDEN STREET." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />93-359 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />an ordinance to change the name of Project Drive to Wilson <br />Parkway. <br /> <br /> "Project Drive is located entirely within the Jeffrey <br />Wilson Homes public housing project. The Portsmouth <br />Redevelopment and Housing Authority, on behalf of two resident <br />civic groups, is requesting the name be changed to Wilson <br />Parkway. The name change will promote a more positive image <br />for this neighborhood. <br /> <br /> By a 5-0-1 vote, the Planning Commission recommended <br />approval of the request. Therefore, I recommend your <br />concurrence with the Planning Commission, s recommendation, and <br />your approval of the attached ordinance... <br /> <br />Gloria W. Fintch, 175 Project Drive, spoke in favor of the <br />street n~me change. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. King, to adopt <br />the following ordinance and by the following vote: <br /> <br /> "AN ORDINANCE CHANGING THE NAME OF PROJECT DRIVE TO WILSON <br />PARK-WAY." <br /> <br />Ayes: Clemons, Epperson, Griffin, Hawks, King, Pitts, Webb <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />93-360 - Letter from the City Manager recommending adoption of <br />an ordinance to make North Street one-way westbound between <br />Chesapeake Avenue and Constitution Avenue. <br /> <br /> "At the request of the residents, the City was asked to <br />investigate making North Street between Chesapeake Avenue and <br />Constitution Avenue one-way westbound. Our investigation <br />showed the street to be very narrow restricting two-way traffic <br />flow. <br /> <br /> The Director of Traffic Engineering conducted a survey of <br />41 dwelling units on North Street, between Chesapeake Avenue <br />and Constitution Avenue, asking if they agreed or disagreed <br />with a one-way street westbound. The results were: <br /> <br />Agreed with a one-way street <br />Disagreed <br />Did not respond <br />Returned to Sender <br /> <br /> 19 <br /> 0 <br />- 18 <br /> <br /> The Director of Traffic Engineering recommends a one-way <br />street be established. <br /> <br /> I, therefore, concur with his recommendation and request <br />your approval of the attached ordinance which will make North <br />Street one-way westbound, from Chesapeake Avenue to <br />Constitution Avenue." <br /> <br /> <br />
