<br />January 24.2006 <br /> <br />MAYOR'S COMMISSION FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES <br /> <br />Lorenza Creekmue to be appointed for a three term ending June 30, 2008. <br /> <br />Doris Rogers to be appointed for a three term ending June 30, 2008. <br /> <br />MUSEUMS AND FINE ARTS COMMISSION <br /> <br />Delores Dudley to fill an unexpired term ending October 31,2007, replacing Lawrence <br />I'Anson. <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to close the nominations, <br />and the above nominations were adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />06 - 55 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Smith to add the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes: Heretick, Moody, Randall, Smith, Whitehurst, Holley <br />Nays: None <br /> <br />Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to adopt the following <br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br />"RESOLUTION IN SUPPORT OF THE VIRGINIA FIRST CITIES 2006 LEGISLATIVE <br />AGENDA. <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia First Cities organization was established in 1998 to <br />address the needs of Virginia's older, core cities and to promote those needs in the <br />Virginia state government; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Virginia First Cities represents older, central cities which are home <br />to a disproportionately high segment of the Commonwealth's lower income residents <br />who have a greater need for public services; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Virginia First Cities represents also the infrastructure and human <br />resources vital for the Commonwealth's economic health and expansion; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the City of Portsmouth has endorsed the efforts of Virginia First <br />Cities; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, Virginia First Cities has been instrumental In developing and <br />advocating legislation that addresses those needs; and <br /> <br />WHEREAS, the Virginia First Cities legislative agenda for 2006 calls for: <br /> <br />I. a realignment of state policies and funding formulas to reduce <br />disproportionate economic, fiscal and demographic stresses and <br />disparities on Virginia's fiscally stressed cities <br /> <br />II. full state funding of the Commonwealth's responsibilities for the education <br />of all students, for public safety, human services, and transportation; <br /> <br />III. active promotion by the Commonwealth of conditions to encourage the <br />economic health of cities through employment, neighborhood <br />redevelopment and revitalization of commercial areas; and <br />
