November 9, 2004 <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to close the nominations <br />and the above nominations were adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />04 - 436 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />Councilwoman Randall spoke on the Empowerment 2010 Housing Conference <br />November 15th, 16th, and 17th to be held in Norfolk, VA. <br /> <br />Mayor Holley spoke on the passing of Lucy M. Overton and J. Chandler Harper. <br />Also, he announced the cancellation of the City Council Retreat that was to be held <br />Friday, November 12, 2004 and Saturday, November 13, 2004, out of respect for <br />Ms. Overton and Mr. Harper. <br /> <br />04 - 374 - Report on Pending Items <br /> <br />There were no pending items. <br /> <br />04 - 375 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />Helen Person, 600 Rutter Street, Apt. B, thanked the Council and staff for relocating <br />the mailboxes at Westbury and benches along High Street. Also, she spoke on the <br />HRT bus stop at Victory Crossing. <br /> <br />2. Jack Tynch, 2808 Acres Road, spoke on a letter sent to Council regarding education <br /> on behalf of Van Lefcoe Alumni Association and the Chamber of Commerce. <br /> <br />Kathleen Carlson, 116 Chowan Drive, spoke on the Portsmouth Neighborhood <br />Academy. Also, she announced she will be selling flowers and hair cuts at <br />Stylecrest for Safety Town. <br /> <br />4. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, spoke on federal, state and local <br /> governments and funding of schools. <br /> <br />5. Ken Woolard, 617 London Street, spoke on the surge in attendance at museums. <br /> Also, he commented on Winter Wonderland efforts. <br /> <br />On motion, meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. <br /> <br />~ictor H.
