<br />there were present:

<br />Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., Cameron C. Pitts
<br />J. Thomas Benn III, William E. Moody, Jr., City Manager C. W. McCoy
<br />City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman.
<br />
<br />04 - 237 - The following call for the meeting was read:
<br />
<br /> "Please attend a Special Called Meeting of the City CounCil to be held in the Ci%

<br />Council Chamber, 801 Crawford Street, 6 floor, 5:45 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, 200,~
<br />for the purpose of selecting an Interim City Manager.
<br />
<br />In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting.
<br />
<br />By order of the Mayor."

<br />04 - 238 - Appointment of James B. Oliver, Jr. as Interim City Manager.
<br />
<br /> Motion by Mr. Benn, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, to adopt the followin
<br />resolution, and was adopted by the following vote: .
<br />
<br />"A RESOLUTION APPOINTING JAMES B. OLIVER, JR. AS INTERIM CITY
<br />MANAGER.
<br />
<br /> BE IT RESOLVED by the Council of the City of Portsmouth, Virginia, that City
<br />Council, acting pursuant to Section 5.01 of the Portsmouth City Charter, does hereby
<br />appoint James B. Oliver, Jr. as Interim City Manager for a term commencing on the
<br />retirement of City Manager C. W. McCoy and extending for a period ef one year
<br />thereafter, as set forth in the attached "interim Employment Agreement," for a salary of
<br />$135,000 per year. -
<br />
<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, tha~ the Mayor, acting for and on behalf of the
<br />City, is authorized to execute said agreement, or one substantially.the same, and to
<br />bind the City thereby. The Mayor is further authorized to retain C. W; McCoy, after his
<br />retirement as City Manager, to serve as a consultant to assist with transition, at his
<br />current salary and benefits, for a period not to exceed seventy days.

<br /> BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that any possible renewal or extension of said
<br />agreement may be authorized only by duly recorded vote of City Council." (See
