601 <br /> <br /> April 27, 2004 <br /> <br /> 04 - 162 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />~ Councilman Whitehurst spoke on the March of Dimes Walk-A-Thon, 1:00 p.m., <br /> Sunday, May 2, 2004. <br /> <br />~ Councilman Benn read a statement concerning an editorial, which appeared in the <br /> Virginian-Pilot supporting candidates for City Council. <br /> <br />~ Councilman Pitts spoke on the success of the Portsmouth Invitational Tournament <br /> (PIT). Further, he noted the presence of members of the Sheriff's Department at <br /> tonight's meeting. <br /> <br /> ~ Vice Mayor Griffin spoke on the Maersk project. <br /> <br />> Councilman Pitts announced the next Community Meeting to be held at 7:00 p.m., <br /> Monday, May 17, 2004, at Churchland High School. <br /> <br />>. Councilman Moody inquired about a request to hold a public hearing on the budget <br /> at the May 17th Community Meeting. <br /> <br />03 - 163 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. J. Brewer Moore, 308 Bobby Jones Drive, spoke on the Maersk project and the <br /> legislative study on the merger of Portsmouth and Norfolk. <br /> <br />2. Jay L. Poynte, 3344 Prince Edward Court, Virginia Beach, spoke on safety issues <br /> near the Jordan Bridge where paving has stopped. <br /> <br />3. Martha Ann Creecy, 317 Dinwiddie Street, recognized Lefcoe Alumni Association for <br /> sponsoring the recording of the School Board candidate forum. <br /> <br />4. Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, spoke on concerns regarding the <br /> current political campaign. He also commented on the programming of the City's <br /> public access channel. <br /> <br />5. Leon C. Pajak, 3400 Channel Avenue, made general comments on how the <br /> problems of the City are caused by state and federal government. He spoke further <br /> about sharing information with DMV. <br /> <br />6. Dan Wendell, 113 Afton Parkway, spoke on numerous code violations in the <br /> Cradock area, including illegally parked personal and commercial vehicles. <br /> <br />7. Ed Forlines, 620 High Street, spoke on how the City's progress in economic <br /> development reflect the efforts of the current City Council. <br /> <br /> 8. Victoria L.
