Februar~ 23, 2004 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Monday, February 23, 2004, there were present: Mayor James W. Holley III, *Vice Mayor Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., *Cameron C. Pitts, J. Thomas Benn III, William E. Moody, Jr., Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., Marlene W. Randall, City Manager C. W. McCoy, Assistant City Attorney W. Eugene White. 04 - 69 - The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Manager's Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, February 23, 2004 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. Council to be held in the City 6th floor, 5:00 p.m., Monday, By order of the Mayor." 04 - 70 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Virginia First Cities 2. New City Website Special Events Presentations - Virginia Art Festival - Ports Events - Todi Music Festival 04 - 71 - Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Ms. Randall, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711(A) of the Code of Virginia, to discuss or consider the following: the acquisition or sale of real property for a public purpose. The subject matter of the meeting includes possible acquisition of land for a public purpose, in connection with the receipt and expenditure of Community Development Block Grant funds. The purpose of the meeting is to prevent premature public disclosure of information which could adversely affect the cost of real estate acquisitions, and thus harm the interests of the City and its citizens. The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, pursuant to Section 2.2-3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council. The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting.
