November 25, 2003 <br /> <br /> At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, there <br />were present: <br /> <br />Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., Cameron C. Pitts, <br />J. Thomas Berm III, *VVilliam E. Moody, Jr., Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., Marlene W. <br />Randall, City Manager C. W. McCoy, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. <br /> <br />03 - 418 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City <br />Manager's Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 6th floor, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, <br />November 25, 2003 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. <br /> <br />In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. <br />By order of the Mayor." <br />03 - 419 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: <br />1. Legislative Proposals - Dr. L. Pettis Patton <br />2. Renaissance Hotel Update <br />3. Virginia Sports Hall of Fame <br /> <br />03 - 420 - Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to go into Closed <br />Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-371 I(A) of the Code of Virginia, to <br />discuss or consider the following: <br /> <br /> the acquisition or sale of real property for a public purpose, pursuant to <br />subsection 3; and <br /> <br /> investing public funds where competition or bargaining is involved, pursuant <br />to subsection 6. <br /> <br /> The subject matter of the meeting is acquisition or sale of real property in <br />connection with the Midtown Redevelopment Area and the investing of public funds. <br /> <br /> The purpose of the meeting is to protect the financial interest of the City and its <br />taxpayers by permitting confidential discussions of this subject matter. <br /> <br /> The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Ms. Randall, pursuant to Section <br />2.2-3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' <br />knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: <br /> <br /> 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting <br /> requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and <br /> <br /> 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which <br /> the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in <br /> the meeting by the City Council. <br /> <br /> The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
