November 25, 2003 At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, there were present: Mayor James W. Holley III, Vice Mayor Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., Cameron C. Pitts, J. Thomas Berm III, *VVilliam E. Moody, Jr., Charles B. Whitehurst, Sr., Marlene W. Randall, City Manager C. W. McCoy, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. 03 - 418 - The following call for the meeting was read: "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City Manager's Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 6th floor, 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, November 25, 2003 for the purpose of a Public Work Session. In addition, you may consider a motion to go into a Closed Meeting. By order of the Mayor." 03 - 419 - The following items were discussed in Public Work Session: 1. Legislative Proposals - Dr. L. Pettis Patton 2. Renaissance Hotel Update 3. Virginia Sports Hall of Fame 03 - 420 - Motion by Mr. Griffin, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to go into Closed Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-371 I(A) of the Code of Virginia, to discuss or consider the following: the acquisition or sale of real property for a public purpose, pursuant to subsection 3; and investing public funds where competition or bargaining is involved, pursuant to subsection 6. The subject matter of the meeting is acquisition or sale of real property in connection with the Midtown Redevelopment Area and the investing of public funds. The purpose of the meeting is to protect the financial interest of the City and its taxpayers by permitting confidential discussions of this subject matter. The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. Motion by Mr. Whitehurst, and seconded by Ms. Randall, pursuant to Section 2.2-3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Council: 1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and 2. Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City Council. The motion was adopted by unanimous vote.
