May 19, 2003 353 <br /> <br /> At a Called Meeting of the City Council on Monday, May 19, 2003, there were <br />present: <br /> <br />Mayor James W. Holley III, .Vice Mayor Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., *Cameron C. Pitts, <br />*William E. Moody, Jr., Charles B, Whitehurst, Sr., Madene W. Randall, City Manager <br />C. W. McCoy, City Attorney G. Timothy Oksman. <br /> <br />03 - 178 - The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be held in the City <br />Manager's Conference Room, 801 Crawford Street, 6th floor, 5:00 p.m., May 19, 2003 <br />for the purpose of a Closed Meeting. <br /> <br />By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />03 - 179 - Motion by Mr. Moody, and seconded by Mr. Whitehurst, to go into Closed <br />Meeting pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711(A) of the Code of Virginia, to <br />discuss or consider the following: <br /> <br />the acquisition or sale of real property for a public purpose, as per subsection <br />3; and <br /> <br />legal matters requiring the advice of legal counsel, as per subsection 7. <br /> <br /> The subject matter of the meeting includes the possible acquisition and possible <br />sale and development of certain real estate properties for public purposes, and legal <br />matters involving interpretation of the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. The <br />purpose of the meeting is to protect the public interest by ensuring frank and <br />confidential discussion of matters for which public disclosure could harm or jeopardize <br />the public interest. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Motion by Ms. Randall, and seconded by Mr. Griffin, pursuant to Section <br />2.2-3712(D) of the Code of Virginia, certifying that to the best of the Council Members' <br />knowledge during the immediately preceding Closed Meeting of the City Counci.l: <br /> <br />1. Only public business matters lawfully exempted from Open meeting <br /> requirements by the Virginia Freedom of Information Act, and <br /> <br />Only such public business matters as were identified in the motion by which <br />the Closed Meeting was convened, were heard, discussed or considered in <br />the meeting by the City Council. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br />On motion, meeting adjourned at 8:30 p.m. <br /> <br />APPROVED - <br /> <br />Mayor <br /> <br />Debra Y. Whit~ CMC/AAE <br />City Clerk ~' <br /> <br />Councilman J. Thomas Benn III was absent. <br />*Councilman William E. Moody, Jr. left the meeting at 5:25 p.m. and returned at 7:00 p.m. <br />*Councilman Cameron C. Pitts left at 5:45 p.m. <br /> <br /> <br />
