Whitehurst, Sr. <br /> <br />Southeastern Public Service Authority <br />History Commission Liaison <br />Council Liaison to Festivals <br />Vision 2005 (Cradock) (Jointly with Moody) <br />Vision 2005 (Scotts Creek) <br />Portsmouth Redevelopment & Housing Authority Liaison <br /> <br />Councilwoman Marlene Randall <br /> <br />Empowerment Zone Representative <br />Mayor's Liaison to School Board <br />Liaison to Mayor's Ball <br />Neighborhood Liaison - Southside (Brighton, Truxton, Prentis Place, and Prentis Park) <br /> <br />03 -10 - Items Submitted by Council Members <br /> <br />Council Whitehurst spoke on the invitation for the kick-off of the March of Dimes on <br />Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at 8:00 a.m., to be held at the Holiday Inn and on the <br />Walk-A-Thon, Sunday, April 27, 2003. He also, has accepted the Chair for <br />Portsmouth. Requested that the City and Portsmouth Redevelopment and Housing <br />Authority identify all tax-exempt parcels for potential sale. <br /> <br />Councilwoman Randall announced the opening of the Empowerment 2010 Center in <br />Portsmouth scheduled for January 21,2003, at 10:00 a.m. on Queen Street. <br /> <br />03 - 11 - Non-Agenda Speakers <br /> <br />1. J. Brewer Moore, 308 Bobby Jones Drive, spoke on regionalism, annexation history <br /> and the merger of Norfolk and Portsmouth. <br /> <br />Mark Geduldig-Yatrofsky, 363 Middle Street, spoke on balancing the rights of <br />property owners and integrity of the historic district. He also asked about the <br />progress on the Catholic School. <br /> <br />3. Raleigh Harsley, 2124 Peach Street, spoke on concerns in his neighborhood. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Pitts, and seconded by Mr. Moody, to go into Closed Meeting <br />pursuant to provisions of Section 2.2-3711(A) of the Code of Virginia, to discuss or <br />consider the following: <br /> <br />- appointments to boards and commissions, as per subsection 1; <br /> <br />- the acquisition or sale of real property for a public purpose, as per subsection 3; <br /> <br />and <br /> <br />- legal matters requiring the advice of legal counsel, as per subsection 7. <br /> <br />The subject matter of the meeting includes appointments of citizens to boards <br />and commissions, personnel matters, the possible acquisition and possible sale <br />and development of certain real estate properties for public purposes, and legal <br />matters involving interpretation of the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia. <br /> <br />The purpose of the meeting is to protect the public interest by ensuring frank and <br />confidential discussion of matters for which public disclosure could harm or <br />jeopardize the public interest. <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> <br />
