August 21, 1908. <br /> <br /> An ordinance for extending the corporate limits of t~e City of Portsmouth, <br />of the General Assembly of Virginia, approved ~rch 10, 1904. <br /> <br /> Fourth, Reports of Officers ~nd other unfinished business, <br /> <br /> The regular reports of Officers for month of July were presented and were <br /> <br />ordered to take the <br /> <br /> ~I~ne following resolutions were presented by chairman of the Finance 0ommittee: <br /> <br /> Resolved, ~aat the Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized to renew a note for seven thousand <br /> ($7,000) dollars, due in the Bank of Portsmouth September 10, 1908; and the said note to said <br /> is to be renewed upon the same terms ~nd conditions as were proposed by the several bar2~s and adop- <br /> ted by the City Co~meil January 5, 1904. <br /> <br /> Resolved, That the Treasurer be and he is hereby authorized to make new notes in the Eerchants <br />& Farmers Ba~ and the Bank of Portsmouth to amount of twelve thousand ~$12,000) dollars, to m~et <br />current expenses for Sep~emoer, 1908; and the said notes to said amount are to be made upon the same <br />terms and conditions as were proposed by the several City band, s and adopted by the City Council Jan-~ <br />uary 5, 1904. <br /> <br /> The resolutions were adopted by the following vote: <br /> <br /> Ayes--Hall, John E., Watts, Dashiel!~ Hanvey, Silisoly, Welton, Hall, ~. E., Jr., <br /> Johnson, Leigh, Brinson, Buchanan, Withy, ~ood, Hawks, 13. <br /> <br /> The following resolution was ~ntroduoed by~r. Hawks, it having been adopted by the Board <br />Aldermen Auks. st 18th: <br /> <br />of <br /> <br /> ~hereas, it appears that there is a legal objection to the manner <br /> <br />sented by the Joint Finance Co~mittee ~rsh lC, 1908, was adopted, to authorize the <br />of School, $110,000 of Sewerage, and $30,000 of Paving and Street improvement bonds, <br />said ordinance was adopted on the same day it was introduced in the Go~ucil-- <br /> <br /> Resolved by the Board of Aldermen, the Co~on Council Concurring, That for the purpose of avoid- <br />ing any question hereafter with regard to the validity of the previous adoption of said ordinance <br />it be read again and re-adopted.
