<br /> It will be seen that the lowest bid for the work exceeds the appropriation for same by $489.80;
<br />but the OitYEngine~r reports that $3~5.20 additional will he required f~r inspectors, advertising,

<br /> We have reconsidered~the mmtter; believe that $2,800 is a reasonable price for the house;
<br />and recommend that it be purchased at that priee.

<br /> To exam~ue and report ~ to cost of putting in proper shape for an engine house the house owned
<br />by J. Davis Heed in the Seventh Ward, heretofore recommended as a suitable house for a fire engine;
<br />also to ascertain what would be the eost of a suitable lot elsewhere in the Seventh Ward for an en-
<br />gine house,and to build thereon. Progress.

<br /> To consider the advisability of putting an iron gate to entrance of Armory Hall,
<br /> It~is recommended that an iron gate be put to said entranee at a cost of $75.00. This
<br />cost would include painting, all neaessary materia~ and labor and repair of the stairway treads.

<br /> To a~vertise for bids to supply the public buildings~with fuel.
<br /> We have so advertised and have received bids to supply coal from W. & G. Parker; S. P.'
<br />0asr; the Portsmouth Goal and Ice 0ompany; Oharles H..Nash~ and Wm, G. ~aupi~. Each of these firms
<br />will supply coal at $? per ton, with $t extra for delmvery of same at the Almshous'e.
<br /> We have received bids also for wood from S~ P. Oast, at $5.60 per cord, and from Herbert & R$b-
<br />ertson, at $5.?9 per cord.
<br /> ~It is recommended that all bids~for the 74 tons of coal needed be accepted and the quantity be
<br />divided.among the several bidders; and that award for the wood be made to S, P. 0asr, he being the
<br />!ewer bmdder for same.

<br /> ~It is further recommended that~ five (5) dozen blankets, at $1 each, and twenty-~vo (~2) mat-
<br />tresses, at a cost of' $50, be supplied the 0ity Jail.
