<br /> Reported having e~m~ned bills against the City for September, 1909, and they rec-
<br />
<br />ommended the same for payment to amount of $11,073 for the City proper, $707.11 for the Sixth Ward,
<br />and $652.?5 for the Se~enth~ard.
<br />
<br /> On motion, the bills were allowed by the following'vote:

<br /> The Olerk presented certain Almshouse, Light a~d 0emetery bills properly approved by the res-
<br />pective chairmen of the corm~ trees, but which had not been passed on by the Joint Auditing Committee.

<br /> ~r, Johnson moved that all of such bills be read and then allowed, provided they should be sub-
<br />sequently approved by the Auditing Oomm~ttee.

<br /> $16.308,94 for a new building at the Almshouse. Progress as to same.
<br /> $2.75 per ton for twenty or twenty-five tons of soft ~oal for the Sewerage Department.
<br /> It is recommended that the appropriation be allowed, out of appropriation to said depart-
<br />ment.
<br /> $152.50 for signs on the streets to warn people against spitting on the streets or throwing
<br />paper on them.
<br /> It is recommended that an appropriation of $58 be made to the Street Department for
<br />purchase Of ~of S~¢h. sig~.
<br /> ~0 to~$~00 ~0rmed~!sto parents reporting births in their families. Progress.
<br /> $76~.09 for lmghts and improvement work in the Sixth Ward~
<br /> It is recommended that the appropriation be allowed, out of the Sixth ~ard funds,
<br /> $750 for ~mprovement work~ip the Seventh ~ard. Progress.
<br /> $75 to re,ovate the jail bomler. ' .~
<br /> ~t is recommended that the appropriation be allowed, out of appropriation to the Pu~b~ic
<br />Property Department.
<br /> $5,250 for expenses of the Police Department u~til January 'first. Progress. ~ ~-

<br /> A petition of W. M. Holly to have refunded him $17, because of an improper assessment on his
<br /> property at t163-Webster avenue. Progress.
<br /> A petition of Dr. Hugh Parrish to have increased the salary of Physician to the Poor. Progress.
<br /> Petitions of polieemen-N, H. Edmonds to be paid $2.33; D. P, Oulpepper, $7.02; ~ud Jesse H.
<br /> Ga~ris, $11,~--They having been absent from duty on account of sickness for one, three and five
<br /> days, respectively, d~ing the months ef June, July and Au~st,
<br /> It is recommended that the petitions be granted.
<br /> $I0,000 to be borrowed of the several 0ity b~nks by the Treasurer to meet~0ity Ourrent expenses
<br /> for October, 1909.
<br /> It is recommended~th~t-~the money be se borrowed and that the following resolution be
<br /> opted therefor:
<br /> Resolved, ~b~t the Trea~rer be ~ud he is hereby authorized to borrow from 'The
<br /> Bank of Por~tamouth, The Merchants and Farmers B~, and the First Natien~l Ba~k of Portsmouth,~the
<br /> sum $£ ~en thousand ($10,000) Dollars, to be repaid from the revenues of the c~rent year, and to
<br /> execute the Oity's notes for the same.~
<br /> To adjust, with recommendation, the salaries of Secretary to the Board of Health a~d the
<br /> Olerk.
<br /> It is recommended that the salary of the 0ity 01erk be $135 per month for servi~ as Olerk
<br /> to the Oouncils and the Oouncil committees; and that the salary of Secret~ry to the Board Of Health
<br /> be fixed at $200 per a~num, payable in equal installments monthly begizn~ing October l, 1909, out of
<br /> appropriation to said BO~d of Heatth~
<br /> Toreconsider the question of commission to be allowed the 0ity 0ollector, in connection with
<br /> certain' suggestions made by ~r. H. L, Watts therefor.
