On motions, the
regard to pay of firemen after January !,
t0 nays,

several recommendations of the 0o~umittee were adopted, except recommendation in
1910; that recommendation was lost by a Vote of 9 ayes to

Fifth. An appropriation to pay teachers of the public schools for a part of January, 1910.
0onsideration of this matter was objected to, and it was referred to the Joint Finance Com.

~nere being no objection thereto, the following other matters were Considered:
Estimates of the Chief of the Fire Department of supplies needed to amount of $3,945. to proper-
ly equi~ the combination-wagons for the Sixth and Seventh wards, which said estimates had been
proved by the Joint Fire 0ommittee.
~r. Brinson said that he thought the bill introduced in the Houseo~ Delegates lately by our
re~resenta~mTe tnere~ M~, Wm. G? Parke~! to provmde that water companies shall be under the control
an~ supervision of the uorporatmon Oomm~s~ion, was an e~cellent measUre; and he moved that
hi2 endorse ~e action of ~r. Parker, notify him of the endorsement, and request him to include gas
and electric ~ight ~omp~aiB~ ih his bill.
The motion was adopted.

.~tr. Bzinson said further that while he thought the ~Parker bill" for supplying the 0ity with
water had i~ it many goodl features, yet he considered that the matters of requiring the City to ex-
pend '$?5,000. on prelmmmna~ work for water and to ma~:e the v~te~ eommission a perpetual body, were
very objectionable-; and he moved that a committee of five be appointed to wait on Mr. Parker with
the view of having him amend the bill in these respeOts,
The motion was adopt.ed; and Messrs. Brinson, Watts and Hanvey were appointed to said committee
from t~e 0sEmen G0%tncil, and Montag~e and V~illiams from the Board of Aldermen.

M~. Montague cmlled attention to the fact that Mr. Geo. P, Barnes. lately elected to the Board
of Harbor Oonmissioners, had declined to serve thereon, and that there was a vacancy on the Board
of ~uarantmne Commmssmoners, caused by the death of Mr. W. S, Langhorne; and he moved that the body
go into an election to fill ss~[d vacancies.
~ne motion was adopted.
.Whereupon, ~r, ~illiams nominated Mr, Hubert D, Ward to fill the vacancy on the Board of Har-
bor OomEiseioners, and ~r, ~ontague nominated Dr. Geo. H. Garr for the Board of Quarantine Commis-
sioners, and, there being no other nominations, these gentlemen were elected by the following vote,
the vote being the same for each:
