<br /> On motion, the report of the Oommittee was adopted, and the recommended raise of salaries for
<br />firemen at the Sewer Power House was referred to the Joint Finance Committee.

<br /> It was observed that there was a committee present from the Norfolk Oity Oouncil in regard to
<br />consolidating the cities of Norfolk and Portsmouth, and it was moved that the rules be suspended to
<br />hear from the 0ommittee. The motion was adopted.
<br /> ~hereupon, ~r. Wm. H. Sargeant, Jr., ehairm~n of said ~ommittee. made a few remarks concerning
<br />the benefits to be delved by Norfolk and Portsmouth from their consolidation, and then requested
<br />the~Oouncit of Portsmouth to consider the following ordinance proposed by the Council' of Norfolk:

<br />follo~rlng s~bJeets-~-to-wit:
<br /> "First. Then amc suggested for the proposed municipal government is "GREAT~
