<br /> mittee, made at the meeting April 12th, was first taken up..
<br /> The tales were suspended ~in order to hear from representatives of the Portsmouth and Norfolk
<br /> Corporation present.
<br /> Mr. T. J. Wool, President of the Oorporation,made a few remarks explanatory fu~her of the po-
<br /> sition of his board of directors aS to an extension of the contract asked for to light the City,
<br /> Whereupon, Er. Hawks offerred the following resolution as a Substitute for the majority and
<br /> minority recommendations of the Joint Light Committee:
<br /> ~EEKEAS, the Portsmouth and Norfolk~ Corporatiom~waa,. by an ~rdinan~e ~pproved June 21, 1~09,
<br /> granted a twenty year franchise for. electric light and power and ~ ten year contract with the Oity
<br /> for furnishing municipal lighting; and,
<br /> ~HEREAs, the said Gorporatio~has applied for an extension of time within~ which to furnish the
<br /> Oity wi~h municipal If ghting; ~nd,
<br /> ~ WHEreAS, the Portsmouth and Norfolk Oorporstion has agreed ~hat if said extension is granted
<br /> t will at once execute the bond of Five Thousand Dollars. required by said ordinance, with good
<br /> and sufficient ~ecurity in favor of the 0ity, conditioned upon the constructing and putting into
<br /> opera,ion and maintaining the plant and servi~e in the franchise granted, within nine months from
<br /> the date of the approval by the mayor of_ said 0fry, of a resolution authorizing such extension;
<br /> and it will also execute a bond in ~he sum of Two Thousand Five Hundred Dollars, with good and suf-
<br /> ficient security, in favor of the 0fry, conditioned t~re-imburse the said 0ity for anydifference
<br /> it has expend~d~ or~ may expend for municipal tightin~ from the first ~ay~ of-tanua~y~' 1910, to the
<br /> time when the s~id Gorporatmon shall ~urnish the samd lighting in accordance~with m%s contra~t, said
<br /> difference being the amount of what the .s~.id 0ityhas pai~ and shall/be required to pay,.in excess
<br /> of that it should ha~e pai~ under the samd contract, had mt been enforced and eomplied.~ith ms of
<br /> January l, 1910, ~n~to re-imburse the said-0ity for any and all other expenses it may ha~e incurred
<br /> !y reason of such eXte~sion;~a~d that. the certified check for Five ~housand Dollars deposited by
<br /> ~is~i~ Gorpor&~ion wmth its bid ~n~ now held bythe Gity,~shall be retained by the City as se¢~-
<br /> ~y rot the re-i~oursement to tEesaid Oity for any and all expenses it may have ineurre~ by rea-
<br /> son of s~eh extension, in addition to ~nd subject to the same conditions as the said bond for Twen-
