November 16, 1~09. <br /> <br />Mr. Glover moved that the Joint Street Con~ittee be instructed to consider the advisability of con- <br />netting Dinwiddie and Fifth streets across the intervening marsh, and that the special committee on <br />Gander Greek should look into the matter of prcviding a play ground for children in the space boun- <br />ded by WashingtOn. Dinwiddie and Wythe streets, and the Union_Bridge causeway. <br /> The motion w~s adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Montague, the Joint Street 0ommittee was instz~cted to consider the paving of <br />0hestnut street with vitrified bricks on a sand base. <br /> <br /> A p~tition of policeman, L, 0. Oalvert, to be paid $29.73 for time lost on account of sickness <br />1~ days mn September smd October, was referred to the Joint Finance Committee. <br /> <br /> / Mr. Stroud~for an a~propriation of $500. for ~Church Oharities," a~d, after some discussion Of <br />the request it wms referred back to his committee for i~rther consideration. <br /> <br /> Er. ~u~ray moved that the Finance and Fire committees jointly be instm~cted to provide fire en- <br />gine houses for the Sixth and Seventh wards. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Langhorne, the Joint Street Oom~ittee was instructed to look into the advisa- <br />biiity of paving with mackad~m some of the s~reets it is proposed to pave. <br /> <br />On motions, the following other matters were referred to-~ <br /> <br /> Finance Oommmittee-= <br /> A~ appropriatitn of $~50. to install night schools in the Oity, from Janu- <br /> first u~til July first. <br /> With - ~ ' ~' <br /> u~gen~ request to take steps for building an annex to the Fourth a~d Fifth Dmst_mct schools, <br />e~. <br /> To ~eport ~o the Ooun~il in ~he m~te~ of ~ increase o~ p~y fo~ the street pavers. ~ <br /> <br /> Street Oommittee-- <br /> To consider the.sweeping of High street, <br />time that other streets ~re swept. <br /> <br />from Effingham to Court, at the s~me <br /> <br /> Ordinance Oon~nittee-- <br /> For ~u ordinance to require street railv~y companies to pave between the <br />track r~ils and for two feet on each s~de of same, with the same mmterie~ and in the same n~nner as <br />paving along said tracks is done by the~0ity. <br /> <br />Water <br /> ~he advisability of establishing a Bo~d of Water Gommissioners. <br /> <br />Board of Health-- <br /> The leaky condition of garbage o~rts on the streets. <br /> <br />On motion, adjourned, <br /> <br /> <br />
