1910. <br /> <br />The regular reports of Officers for J~!y were presented and were ordered to take the ust~l Course <br /> <br /> In accordance With request of the Council therefor June 15~n and 21st ti~t the Seventh Ward Zo- <br />cal Board sho~Id investigate and report as to how the lo~ber bought of ~, M~ Tilley previous to Jan- <br />uary Ist, was disposed of, the Zoeal Board replied and gave a satisfactory expl~natio~ of the matter. <br /> The reply of the Board was ordered to file. <br /> <br /> ~ In accordance with a joint resolution of the ~wo branehes of 0ouncil J~&ue 15-21~ 1~10, in which <br />Messrs. Jas. S, Barren and George G. M~rtin, attorneys for the~ Norfolk Oounty Board of Supervisors <br />in ~ suit against the ~er~ies 0ompany for failure to execute its contract with the Oounty and Oity, <br />were requested to give the Oouncil their authority for using the n~me of the Oity as a party to this <br />suit--these gentlemen replied in substance that, "It is true that the action was instituted in the <br />name of the Oity of Portsmouth and the ~ou~ty of Norfo!k,~ bu~ that w~s because it is necessary for <br />~he o~ners of m joint right to sue jointly ~ess they can allege ~nd shew some cause for non <br />der, and we had no groun& for not Joiming the Oity with the Oounty, <br /> On motion, the reply of Messrs, Bar, on and Martin was ordered to file, <br /> <br /> i request of the Treasurer for authority to renew notes in the several Oitybamks to amount of <br />$20,.000, due September 15th~ and~ for $I8,000~ due September 19th, 1910, ~s given by the following <br />resolution: <br /> Resoived~ thatthe ~reasurer be, and he is hereby authorized to renew notes in ~he Bank <br />of Per, smog_th, The Merchants and ~armers Ba~k, The ~irst National ~ of Portsmouth, ~nd the B~nk <br />of Tidewater, to ~mount of thirtyreight thousand ($~$,000) doll~rs, said notes to be repaid ~rom the <br />revenues of-the current year, <br /> Ayes-- moore, Zangho~e, Walker, Ballentine, Adams, Nontague~ Williams, Palme~, 8. <br /> <br />NEW BUS.SS. <br /> <br />i request was read from-the "Jefferson Olub" for repair or rebuilding the Swin~ning Point bridge~ <br /> The request was referred to the Joint ~t~eet 0ommittee. <br /> <br /> On motion of Mr. Adams, the Joint Street Con, tee was instructed to consider the advisability <br />o~paving the south side of, High street, between Efflngh~mand ~hestnut. <br /> <br /> ~r. ~illiams moved that a light be placed on the Swimming Point bridge, The motion was adopted <br />and the Joint ~ight Oommittee was instructed to consider the matter. <br /> <br /> I communicationwas read f~om ~Ms, Elizabeth Neely and sund~y others in which request was made <br />for an ordinance to require trains of the S. A. L. Ry. moving on Orawford street to be propelled by <br />either electricity or g~solene motor power. <br /> The request was~ referred to the Street and 0rdinanee committees jointly. <br /> <br />The following resolution offered hymn. Williams w~s. adopted: <br /> <br /> Resolved, that the proceedings of this meeting are approved as transacted, ~nd that the Presi- <br />dent is instructed to sign said proceedings if they are found to be recorded correctly. <br /> <br /> ~Lr. Nontag~e moved that ~he thanks of the body be extended to the P~esi&ent for *~he urbanity <br />and impartiality with which he presided for the past ~wo years. <br /> The motion was seconded by several other members with rema~s of approbation~ and was u- <br />nanimously adopted. <br /> <br />(This was the last regular meeting to be held by the presen~ Board of Aide,men). <br /> <br /> <br />
