Board of Aldermen. <br /> <br />Gent!emen:-~ Your Street Committee respectfully reports herez <br /> <br />in concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Street Committee February 13-30, 1912: <br /> Referred by Oommon Council February 13th. <br /> <br /> Requests of Dr. Joseph Guth~ie for the establishment of a small boat harbor, and for an improve- <br />ment to condition of approaches to WeSt Park View, by Wilson avenue and Spratley street. <br /> We report Progress in regard to the establishment of a small boat harbor, but will use the <br />$800.00 allowed in the "budget" for improvements to West Park View, when the weather opens. <br /> <br /> A petition of Whit Wilkins Tot improvement~to condition of Race avenue, between Washington and <br />Green streets. <br /> An appropriation for the same has been provided for in the "budget" and the work will be <br />done as soon as practicable. <br /> <br /> A rea£dest of the Ladies' Board of Managers of Kings Daughters' Hospital £or pavement of Emmett <br />street, from Green to Chestnut. <br /> It is recommended that the Street Committee be authorized to advertise for bids for lay- <br />ing plastic pavement on this street. <br /> <br /> Advisability of paving in front of the Union Fire Company's house. <br /> It is recommended that the work be done, ~ud that the City pay one-half of the cost, or <br />$75.00 for same. <br /> <br /> Authorized to obtain consent of the property owners on First street fo~ removal <br />Railway tracks westward on said street. <br /> We report that no result has so far been obtained in the matter. <br /> <br />of the S. A. L. <br /> <br />Referred by Board of Aldermen February 20th. <br /> <br /> To require all carts used for removal of trash to be covered, and no boxes and barrels to be <br />placed on the streets. Progress as to same. <br /> <br /> Advisability of appointing a Board of Park Commissioners, or otherwise providing playgrounds. <br /> It is reccmmended that the Street Committee be authorized to select a Board of Park Com- <br />missioners, consisting of three or more members, subject to approval of the Council therefor. <br /> <br /> Advisability of a public dock a~.the Cat Hole and a public com~fort station. <br /> We report that a special committee has been appointed to take up the matter of a public <br />dock at the Cat Hole bridge; but it is recommended that the ~ablic Property Committee be authorized <br />to consult with the Board of Supervisors of ~orfolk County in the matter of a public comfort station <br />for the City and the County. <br /> <br /> To purchase some m~r~h land into which stree% sweepings can be deposited, and then to use the <br />land as a playground. Progress. <br /> <br />Advisability of paving the Star Lane. <br /> It is recommended that an appropriation of $E50.00 be allowed for the purpose. <br /> <br /> To purchase receptacles into which waste paper, &c., swept up by the street hands, can be de- <br />posited. Progress. <br /> <br /> To require wires to be put underground~ and to require the Virginia P~ilway & Power Company to <br />at once put underground the feed wires runnmng from the sub-station at the north end of Middle street <br />to High street. Progress. <br /> <br /> To build a small pier at the north end of Middle street, ~ud repair the l&nding at the east end <br />of High street. <br /> We report that, in Otuv opinion~ ~e City has no legal right to build a pier at the north <br />end of Middle street; the landing at the east end of High street has been repaired. <br /> <br /> A petition of L. J. Plummet to build on the west side of Court street in the vicinity of the <br />concrete bridge. Progress. <br /> <br />Advisability of paving North street~ between C~awford and Water. It is recommended that said street be paved, at a cost of <br /> <br />(Signed). JO. P.
