<br /> The acting Chairman of the Street Committee explained the reason of the Committee for giv-

<br /> Finally, on motion of Er. Davis, the Board concurre~ with the Common Council in allowing

<br /> T'o direct the Public Property Committee to put lights in the City offices in the Ferry build-
<br /> ing, the cost of same to be deducted from re~t of said offices.

<br /> To authorize~ the Treasurer to renew notes to amount of tZ0,O00.00, due October 15, 191~.
<br /> To authorize the Public Proper~y Committee to advertise for- bids to furnish wood and coal for
<br /> the Public buildings durLug the winter.

<br /> of the City, properly index same, and publish in substantial book form, prior to the 1st day of Janu-

<br /> To authorize the Street Committee to continue the laying of granolithic sidewalks to the extent
<br /> of appropriations now available, at a cost of $.95 per sq. yd.

<br /> floor at the Annex fire engine house, for other much needed improvements in the same house.

<br /> The Nayor returned his approval of the following resolutions and ordinance adopted by the two

<br /> To authorize the Treasurer to make notes in the several City banks to amount of $~0,000.00: to
<br /> meet current expenses of the City for August, 191~.
<br /> To authorize the Treasurer to r~enew notes in t~he several City banks to amount of $?6,000.00,
<br /> due September 15, 191~.
<br /> "An ordinance regulating the use of the roadways, or driveways, of the public streets and high-
<br />
<br />ways in the City of Portsmouth."
<br />
<br /> The following other matters adopted by the
<br />to the Mayor for~his approval, became effective
<br />within five days:

<br /> To appropriate $7,500.00 ~o extend Dinwiddie street southward to Fifth, out of receipts from

<br /> To appropriate $6,946.4~ to pave Chestnut street, from south side of Glasgow to south side of
<br />South, and $~00.85 to cover cost of inspection, &c., for same, out of receipts from anticipated sale
<br />of bonds.
<br /> To allow $5,000.00 to the Board of Water Commissioners to meet its expenses for the year 19lB.
<br /> To allow a special appropriation of $1BZ..O0 to pay a bill of Dr. Wm. G. Black, which was held
<br />up by-the Auditor because of l&ck of appropriation for same.
<br /> To make award to Lorenzo Cart to repair doors at the north end of the vegetable market, for
<br /> 6s.oo.
<br /> To make a special appropriation of $~75.00 ~o install fifty-six five cluster lights on High
<br />street, from Water to Chestnut, for balance of the year; and a special appropriation Of $1,554.00
<br />for fixtures for same.
<br /> To authorize the Fir~ Committee to dispose of a balky horse at the Annex fire engine house.
<br /> To exempt the Park View fire c~m~aty f~om payment of a license tax on a carnival to be held by
<br /> said dompany September 9-14th.
<br /> To instruct the Auditor to pay regular City employees on August 5lst, instead of September End,
<br /> the latter date being a holiday.
<br /> The Nayor returned also his approval of the following resolutions adopted by the two branches
<br /> of Council September Z-lOth:
