Recommitted. To consider bids for supplying the City with ~,000 feet of fire hose. 'The~rgport having been read, Mr. Langhorne moved that the recommendation in regard to fire- alarm boxes be recommitted for~ f~rther consideration~ of the matter, and also to consider other de- vices for protection from fire. Gentlemen:-- Your Ordinance Committee respectIk~lly re- ports herein concerning the following matters referred to the Joint Ordinance Committee March 1913: Referred by Common Council Ma~ch llth. A request of the Portsmouth Humane Society to have amended ordinance regarding division of fines received for violation of humane laws. We have looked into this request, do not think it advisable t~ grantasam~attth~ ~i~e~and we so,recommend. -' A request of the Board of Health for the enacmment of an o~dinance requiring "fly-proof and sanitary"privies. It is recommended that-the following ordinance be adopted ~herefor: An0=dinance to Require Privie~ to be Screened and Fly-proof. ~A communication from the Secretary of the State Board of Charities and 0orrections in regard to passage of certain rules for government of the Jail.. Almshouse-- Hon. Board of Aldermen. Gentlemen:-- Et;~meetings~ of' the two branches of City Cou~- -cji February ltL1S, 151~., your Almshouse Committee was ~thorizsd.to advertise for bids to paint the Almshouse b~ildings and an appropriatiom for same was referred to the Finance Committee. At the March meetings of~the Councils, said Committee reperte~, with recommendation that the Almshouse Committee furnish further information ooncer~ing said painting a~d also concerning the put- · S Chase of~a wagon an~ harness for the Almshouse,-prev~ou ly asked for. As $S00.00 had been allowed in the "budget" fo~ painting and repairs t2 said buildings, the Almshouse Committee thought that the best way Of giving suchinformation would be to advertise'for bids to do the work. They have so advertised and have received the following bi~s therefor: For Painting: Geo. A. Brinkley, $190.00 J. P. 'Hofler, ~E~S.O0 L. P. Smith, 197.?B Geo~ A. Brinkley being the lowest bidder for the work and he being otherwise satisfactory to the committee, it is recommended that the award for same be made to him under a bond of SBO.O0 for faithful performance of the work, and that the City Attorney be instructed to draft a contract between said painter and the City to cover same.~ It is further recommended that the said $~00~00 allowed in the "budget" for painting and repairs be now made available to the Committee. With regard to the wagon and harness, which called for an appropriation not provided for in the. "budget" but about which the Fimance Committee wanted information also, we.h~ve rec~eived bi~s for same, and such info~mation will be turned over to'the Finance Comm~ittee. (Signed). D. W.
