<br />of the Street Committee to the Mayor in regard to the paving of~ High street westward from Chestnut
<br />street:
<br /> "Portsmouth, Va., June 10th, 1913.

<br /> "Portsmouth, Virginia.
<br />
<br /> "Dear Sir:--
<br /> "Replying to your favor of the 6th in reference to the paving of High Street west-
<br />ward from Chestnut, beg ts state that the street is being graded from the west and eastward on the
<br />southside, with the consent of the Street Cotmmittee~ in order to facilitate the work of the Contrac-
<br />tor~ but when the paving proper is begun, the work will start from ~hestnut and proceed westward in
<br />accordance with the instructions of the Council~ It is thoroughly understood by the Engineer that
<br />the paving of this street must begin at Ohestnut Street and go westwa~d~ and the Engineer yesterday
<br />advised me that he would carry out these instructions.

<br /> $1,~00.00 to lay a pipe line from London street to connect with present pipe line on Glasgow
<br />street.
<br /> It is recommended that this matte~ be referred to the Street Committee for further ~nfor-
<br />mation.

<br /> $~00.00 to improve condition of bath room and repair roof of the Park View Fire Company's House,
<br />and to furnish said Company with one dozen chairs. Progress as to same.
<br />
<br /> To make available $475.00 allowed in the Budget for "Repairs to Hook and Ladder" 0ompany's head-
<br />~arters.
<br /> We report that this appropriation was made available at the June meetings of Councils.
<br />
<br /> An appropriation not in excess of $20.00 for a-suitable clock for the Council Ohamber, out of
<br />appropriation for Municipal Building.
<br /> It is recommended that a special appropriation,of $20.00 be allowed for the clock.
<br />
<br /> A special appropriation to Public Property Departmen~ of $19.00 per month for phones for the
<br />Municipal Building.
