Auqust 8, 1994 <br /> <br /> At a Called Meeting of the City Council held on Monday, <br />August 8, 1994, there were Present: <br /> <br /> Mayor Gloria O. Webb, *Vice Mayor Johnny M. Clemons, <br />**Bernard D. Griffin, Sr., James T. Martin, Cameron C. Pitts, <br />P. Ward Robinett, Jr., V. Wayne Orton, City Manager, Stuart E. <br />Katz, City Attorney. <br /> <br /> 94-314 The following call for the meeting was read: <br /> <br /> "Please attend a Called Meeting of the City Council to be <br />held in the City Council Chamber, 6th floor of City Hall, 801 <br />Crawford Street, at 5:00 p.m., Monday, August 8, 1994, for the <br />purpose of a Public Work Session. <br /> <br /> In addition, you may consider a motion to go into an <br />Executive Session. <br /> <br /> By order of the Mayor." <br /> <br />94-316 - The following items were discussed in the Public Work <br />Session: <br /> <br />1. Ebony Showcase/Residents Meeting Update <br />2. Putt Putt Golf Update <br />3. Public Utilities Bond <br />4. Downtown Law Enforcement Effort <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Clemons, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, to go <br />into Executive Session pursuant to provisions of Section <br />2.1-344 of the Code of Virginia for the following: <br /> <br />(1) Consideration of appointments to Boards and <br />Commissions by the City Council, as permitted under Subsection <br />(A) (1); <br /> <br /> (2) ~Consideration of the use or acquisition of real <br />property for public purpose in the downtown and central <br />portions of the City, as permitted under Subsection (A) (3); <br /> <br /> (3) Consultation with the City Attorney and briefing by <br />staff regarding legal matters involving House Bill 1242 offered <br />on Riverboat Gaming, as permitted under Subsection (A) (7). <br /> <br />The motion was adopted by unanimous vote. <br /> <br /> Motion by Mr. Clemons, and seconded by Mr. Pitts, pursuant <br />to Section 2.1-344.1 of the Code of Virginia certifying that to <br />the best of the Council member's knowledge during the <br />immediately preceding Executive Session of the City Council: <br /> <br /> (1) Only public business matters lawfully exempted from <br />open meeting requirements by the Virginia Freedom of <br />Information Act, and <br /> <br /> (2) Only such public business matters as were identified <br />in the motion by which the Executive Session was convened, were <br />heard, discussed or considered in the meeting by the City <br />Council. <br /> <br /> <br />
