"Dear Sir:-- You~will pleas~ call a Joint Session of the two branch~s of City Council for Thursday, January ii, 191E~ at 8 Po ~. ~ for a discussion of the proposed ~budget~ of receiots and expenditures for the year 191~. - "Immediately following the Joint Session the' Common CounCil will hold a special meeting to consider the concurrence in such parts of the "budget~ as may have been adopted in said Joint Session. ~Very truly, "C~ W~ Walker, President B. of A. ~W. C.~ read On motion of Mr. Brinson, it was ordered Whereupon~ the several estimated receipts and were acted on as follows: that the "budget" be read and adopted by sections~ p~nGltures for the ~hudget~ for 191E were for For Contingent Expenses-- A~opted, ~ithout amendment. On motion of Mr. Hawks, a bizl for $~00.00 to cover an appropriation to the Civic 1911 was referred to the Finance Committee. League For S~reet Department-- ~r. Markham moved street be increased by $$00.00. The motion was lost. Mr. Dav~s moved to ekiminate ~he ~ecommended appropriatio~ for pavemen~ of Water ~xtension of Dinwiddie street to be done out of Bond ~esue. The motion was lost. Then the "budget~ for Street Department was adopted, as a whole~ For Public Property Department-- that the appropriation for the pavement of~ Third street and Adopted, without amendment. For Fire Department-- On motion~ the Finance Committee was instructed to consider an_ in- crease of pay for engineers of said Department~ in addition t~ pay~of firemen~ Mr. Hawks moved to amend h~-adOp~i~g th~ recor~endatiOn/in~.regard to the pay of firemen named, and to refer to Finance Committee the question of raise of salary for engineers. The amendment was adopted, and then the "budget" for Fire Department was adopted~ On motion of Mr~ Nicholson, the Fire Committee was authorized ~o advertise for bids to pur- chase a Bix Circuit Switch Board. For Almshouse Department-- For Cemetery Department-- For Light Bepa±tmen~-- Adopted~ Adopted~ without amendment. Adopted, withou~ amendment. without amendment. For For Water Department-- Adopted, withou~ amendment. Sewerage Department-- Adopted, without amendment. For Police Department-- Er..E~rkh&m~moved to strike out the ~Dcommended appropriation of ~,000.00 for the purchase of Flash Light System. On motion, the rules were suspended to hear from Er. Psrkins~ a member of the Police Board and ~r. Broughton, CaptAin of ~he Police Force~ who were present, and they explained ~he system~ Then, Mr. Davis moved to send back to the Police Committee ~he recommendation for the Plash Light System, with request that they report on the same at the February meeting of the Council. The motion was adopted. Then the "budget" for the Police Department was adopted, as amended. For Health Department-- Adopted, without amendment. For Court Expenses-- , Adopted~ without amendment.
