<br /> On motion of ~r. Parker, under said suspension of rules, the Street Committee was instructed
<br />to ascertain fro~ the Virginia Railway & Power Company what it intends to do about the double
<br />tracking of High street, west of Che~tnut~ and what proportion of cost of same it will bear.

<br /> As there was not a sufficient number present from~he five old wards of the City t~ pass
<br />on the Auditing report and other financial matters, it was decided to~hold another meeting for
<br />that purpose, and, on motion of Nr. Cooke, the body adjourned to meet Friday, June 14tho

<br /> Auditing--
<br /> Reported having examined bills against the City for May, 1912, and they recom-
<br />
<br />mended the payment of same to the following amounts: $4~8~8.B3 for the City proper~ $11,088.76
<br />for the Sixth Ward; and $7,977.18 for the Seventh Ward.
<br />
<br /> The Vice-Chairman of the Auditing Committee said that there but two pre~ent of the five mem-
<br />bers of said Committee when the bills were examined, and he wished to state the fact, so that the
<br />Council might take notice accordingly.
<br /> The Council decided that, as the bills were found to be correct as examined by-the two
<br />mer~0ers of the Committee, to allow the same, and they were alldWed by the following vote:

<br /> Ayes--Hall, Benson, Parrish, Moore~ Baker, Johnson, Heath, Brinson~ Reynolds~ .Tyler, Hutchins~ Hawks, Parker, Beisel, Cooks, 15.

<br /> In this connection, Mr. Par~ish stated that the~e ~ere two' b~lls..by~he". · Craw£or~ Cgmpa~y, of
<br />which Company he~ Mr. Parrish, is a stockholder, held up by ~he Committee pending acti~ of the
<br />Council as ~o same.
<br /> After some discussion of the matter, the Council decided that, as one of the bills had
<br />been contracted previous to Mr. Parrish being a member of the Council, it was legally payable;
<br />and the other bill was referred to the City Attorney for his opinion thereon.

<br /> Authorized to select some competent person to audit the City books, and to report with re-

<br /> ~1,000.00 to pave North street, between Crawford and Water.
<br /> It is recommended that said amount be allowed, out of the appropriation already made
<br />for Street Paving.
<br />
<br /> ~$8,455.00 to pave First street.
<br /> It is recommended as above for paving North street.
<br />
<br /> $550.00 to payB. F. Smith for supervising the "~k~nicipal Building.~
<br />
<br />fice.

<br />It is recommended that said amount be allowed, ou~ of appropriation for new Clerk's of-

<br /> $600.00 for certain improvemsnts to thetAnnex fire engine housel
<br /> It is recommended that a spacial appropriation of $400.09, or as much o~ the same as
<br />may be necessary, be allowed to lower floor and repair~ sidewalk of said engine house.

<br /> $15.~0 to ~creen the windows and doors of residential past of City Jail. Progress.
<br />
<br /> $1~5.00, ou~ of funds left over from sale of old horses, for a safety net for the Fire De-
<br />partment.
<br /> We report that there is no such fund available at this time for the purpose.
