<br /> The Budget having been read, M~. Buzgese moved to concur in the action of the Joint Session
<br />of this date.
<br /> N~r. ~os.' S. Moore moved to amend, that the action of the Joint Session be concurred in, ex-
<br />cept as to the increase of salary fox the Commonwealth Attorney and a stenographer for the City
<br />Collector, and tha~ these matters-be referred to the Finan~ Committee.
<br /> The matters were discussed and the amendment by N~. Moore was lost.
<br /> Finally, the Budget as amended in Joint Session, was adopted and by the following vote:

<br /> "BESOLVED, That the Joint Finance G~mmittee of the City Council be authorized to a~range
<br /> ~or the sale of Two Hnnd~ed Thousand Dollars ($~00,000.00) of the City of ~ortsmouth six percent
<br /> (8%) two (~) year notes at pa=, with a brokerage not to exceed one percent (l~); and that
<br /> proceeds of such sale shall be applied to the payment of the City notes now held by the several
<br /> Portsmouth banks."

<br />the City with medicines for the year t~IB, and have received bids thezefor from the following
<br />named pa~ties: For Dry Goods,~&c., from ~hillips~Adams & Co., Inc., and The Friedlin Co.; Suits,
<br />Hats, &c., from Breslauer & Anthony; Men's Underwear, from Breslauer & Anthony; Shoes, from J~ M.
<br />Bennett and The F~iedtin 9o~; Rations, from I. C. Brinkley; Wood, from L. ~. Silvester and t~e
<br />Portsmouth Coal & Ice Co., Blankets, from J. S~ C=awfo.rd Co.~ Inc., ~hillips-Adams & Co.,
<br />and The Friediin Co.; and Medicines, from J. W~ Booth & Bro. and N. G. Gayle.
<br /> It is recommended that aw~d be made to I. C. Brinkley to supply rations for
<br />he being the only bidder for same; and that awards be made to The Friedtin Co. ~o supply Dry
<br />Goods, &c., for $28.09~ to Br~slauer & Anthony~to s~ply Suits, Ha~ts, &c., for $~S. B7, to B~es-
<br />tauer & Anthony to supply Men s Unde~wea~:for $60~A~,. to J. M.. Bennett to ~upp~y Shoes, for $75.;
<br />to L. ~. Silvester to supply ~ cords of Wood at ~.00 per c?rd; to The Friedlin Oo. to ~upP!Y
<br />Blankets for $33.?~; and to J, ~. Booth & Bro.. to supply Medicines @ $.0~ per prescription. They
<br />being the lowest bidders for same, the quality of the goods being considered.
