<br />fellow~assoeiate, C. W. Walker; and you will please call a'Joint Session of the two branches
<br />of City Council tomorrow, Feb~aary l~th, at g o'clock P. ~., in order to take such action as
<br />is usuatand proper on ~he death of a feliowmember.

<br /> The "call" having been read, a Committee previously appointed by the President of the
<br />Common Council and Vice-President of the Board of Aldermen to draft appropriate resolutions
<br />on the death of the President of the Board of Aldermen, presented the following:
<br />
<br /> "VfP~P~AS~ In the wisdom of God our friend and associate C. W. Walker, President of the
<br />Board ~f~Aldermen, has been taken from us by death,
<br /> "~ND WHERE~S, His conspicuous services as a member of the City Councils for many yea~_s
<br />entitles him to be named'among the men who have most intelligen~ly~and unremittingly w~ouEh~
<br />for the general good and progress of our City,
<br /> "BE IT P~SOLI~ED, That as President of the OounoiI we honored him for his fair and impartial
<br />rulings and for ~oeoial ability in directingaffai~s which so distinguished him as a presiding
<br />officer; as assoc~ats and~ounsellor we esteemed hmm for his ever couscous, conservative at-
<br />titude and rare discernment in reaching a solution of d~fmcult situations; as companion and
<br />friend we loved him for his modesty and amiability, as well as for one of the gentlest natures
<br />amd sweetest dispositions in dealing with hie fellowmen it has been our privilege to know.
<br />. "RE~OLVED, That these resolutions be s~read on the re~ords of the Board of Aldermen, pub-

<br /> "RESOLVED, That the body meet mn th~ Council Chamber, Sunday, February 15th, at 2:45
<br />and thence attend the funeral services.

<br /> On motion, the resolutions were adopted.
<br />
<br /> T~e President of the Common Council then stated that he and ~he Vice-President of the
<br />Board of Aldermen had thought the Councils should present a suitable floral design for the fu-
<br />neral, and, believing that the body would approve, the same~ they had appointed Messrs. Mark}~mm
<br />and Baker to obtain such design at a cost from $15. to $S0.00. -
<br /> Mr. Hall moved that the action of the President of the Common Council and Vice-President
<br />of the Board of Aldermen be endorsed, and the motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> 'Er. Ballentine then moved that the Council Chamber be dressed in mourning (and on sugges-
<br />tion of Mr. ~illiams, the front of the Municipal Building also) for thirty days, and that the
<br />same Committee appointed to attend to the floral design, see to the decoration.
<br /> The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> After appropriate remarks on the life and character of the deceased by the Mayor, Mr. Wil-
<br />liams, 3~r. Hall, a_nd ~. Davis, the body adjourned.
