M., to consider the question of re-assessment of cor- <br />poratmons in the City of Portsmouth. <br /> "Very truly, <br /> "L. H. Davis, President B. of A. <br /> "~j C. Corbitt, President Common Council." <br /> <br /> The Chair stated that, in accordance with the object of the meeting, the body would be <br />pleased to hear from any citizen present in regard to the matter. <br /> ·hereupon, Mr. M. M. Stanley, General Manager of the S. A. L. Ry. Co., explained the pe~i- <br />tion of bls Company in regard to re-aeseesments and suggested a resolution with preamble, or <br />something equivalent thereto, for adoption by the body. <br /> The said matter was discussed by several members, when M~r. S. Cleburne Browne moved the <br />adoption of the following: Resolv?d, That.th? Beard of Aldermen and Common Council of the City <br />of Portsmouth request the Corporation.Commission of the State of Virginia to defer any re-assess- <br />ment of the property of railways located within said Oity until the fall of 191~. <br /> The motion by Mr. Browne was discussed for some time, when finally, Mr.~H~vey moved that <br />the whole matter lie on the table. The motion by Mr. Hanvey was adopted. <br /> <br />On motion, <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
