<br /> The Clerk presented the usual monthly report, of bills against the City, with

<br />the remark that they had been allowed by the Common Council, subject to subsequent approval
<br />of the Auditor; but, Mr. Nsrkham objected to consideration of them because they were to be paid
<br />out of funds provided in the Budget an~~ the Budget had not yet been adopted.

<br /> However, ahmotion to allow the bi~ts was made and was lost by the following vote, se~en

<br />zed to make notes in The. Nerchants & Farmers ~ank, The Bank of Portsmouth, the Bank of Tide-
<br />water, and ~he First National Bank of Portsmouth, to amount.of Twenty Thousand Dollars to meet
<br />Current Expenses of the Oit~ for the month of January, 1915, said amount to be repaid from re-
<br />venues of the City for the~ur~n~Fear.

<br /> Resolved, That the Treasurer be, and he is hereby, authorized to make notes in The Mer-
<br />chants & Farmers Bank, ~he Bmuk of Portsmouth, the Bank of Tidewater, and The First National
<br />Bank of Portsmouth, to amount of Ten Thousand Dollars ($10,000.00), to meet School Expenses
<br />for January, 1915, said amount to be repaid from revenues of the City for the current year.

<br /> And in this connection, it is recommended that the Treasurer hereafter notify the
<br />banks, in advance, that he will apply tO the Council for such sums as is desired to borrow.
<br />
<br /> A report of B. F. Long as License Inspector, with request that he be retained by the Com-
<br />mittee as such Inspector for such a number of months after January 1st as it may deem advisable.
<br /> We recommend~ha~ it is inadvisable to retain Mr. Long as License Inspector at this
<br />time.

<br /> The School Board's BUdget for the year beginning January 1, 1915, as adopted by

<br />tice.
