Morgan, Chas. T. Parrish, 5. <br /> <br />The first matter t~d~en up was the' election of a temporary KeePer <br /> <br />of the City Cemeteries. <br /> <br /> ~hereu~on, Mr. Eo=Ean nominated Mr. W. H. Dashiell for the position, and .he was elected <br />by the following vote: <br /> ~e.s~Dashiel!, Hanvey~ Herbert, Morgan,-Parrish, 5. <br /> <br /> Next, the oody.to$~,~p~swith t~e ~chool Board the mat~er of the erection of a~Eigh School <br />smd a.~olored School~i~i~gs~ud, after discussing the proposition, it was decide~ to suggest <br />to the School Board that ~'t advertise for bids for the erection of these buildings.' <br /> <br /> N~r. Dashiell presented a petition from the Portsmouth Library Association, asking that <br />the roof and chimneys of the building, occupied by it be repaired. <br /> On motion, the-Publlc Property Department-w~s authorized to a~ertise for bi'ds for <br />the work mhd' report on same at the next meeting of the Council. <br /> <br /> He presented also a communication from the Clerk of the ~arket calling attention to the <br />uueanitary condition of th~ Vegetable Market. <br /> On motion, said communication w~e referred to the Public Property Department to con- <br />sider .~e previous action on the subject of the Market. <br /> <br /> The attention of the ~ody w~s called to a crack in the Confederate Monument on Court street <br />and, on motion, the Public'~Property Department w~s authorized to-have Er. Archibald Ogg ~xamine <br />the condition of the monument aUd the Chair~n of s~id Department to report to the Council the <br />result of said examination. <br /> <br />On motion, <br /> <br />ad-~ou~ned. <br /> <br />November 3, 1~16. <br /> <br /> A special meetin~ of The Council was held November 3rd for a conference with Mr. C. Fred <br />Bonney, DJ.strict ~aUager.of, The Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Company concerning telephone' <br />service in this City~ ' <br /> And to receive a report from the Finance Department as to an appropriation to meet expenses <br />of the Committee leaving the City with regard to selection of a City Manager. <br /> <br />Those present were: <br /> <br />Messrs.- OscXe Dashiell, J. T. H~nvey, C. H. Herbert, <br /> W. D. Morgan, Chas. T. P~rrish, <br /> <br />Bonney and others representing the Telephone Company were present. There was quite <br /> discuSsiOn of telephone service in this City, which was concluded with a <br /> ~ e <br /> Bonn y to make the service here~atisfactory as fs~v as possible. <br /> <br /> Next, the'Chairman of the Finance Department reported, recommending an appropriation of <br />$~00, to pay the expenses of the Committee in the matter of a General M~nmger, and said appro- <br />priation was m~opted by the following vo~e: <br /> Ayes--Dashiell, Hanvey, Herbert, Morgau, <br /> Parrish, 5. <br /> <br />On motion, <br /> <br />adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
