Morgmn, Jno. A. Morris, Chas. T. Parrish, <br /> <br /> The meeting was heid to consider especially an ordinance for refunding $200,000. <br />notes held byMayer & Co., of Cincinnati, Ohio. <br /> The ~ol!owing ordinance for refunding the said notes was read and w~s ~dopted: <br /> <br />of City <br /> <br />AN ORDINANCE TO ISSUE $200,O00~00 OF REFUNDING BONDS OF THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, VIR- <br /> <br />~INIA, AND FOR THE LEVY OF A TAX FOR THE PU~WOSE OF PAYING THE INTEREST THEREON AND THE PRINCIRtL <br /> <br />AT MATURITY. <br /> <br />And by the following vote: <br /> <br />Ayes--Dashieil, Hanvey, Herbert, Norg~n, <br /> Morris, Parrish, 6~ <br /> <br /> By common consent, a communication was read from Dr. F. S. Hope, Ch~irm~n of Portsmouth <br />representatives to the Southern Commercial Congrsss, recommending the ~ioption of the following <br />resolution: <br /> "Be it resolved that the Honorable Council of the City of Portsmouth be respect- <br />fully requested to~&ppropriate the sum of Five Hundred ($500.00) Dollars to ~e expended for the <br />pttrpose of advertising ~he s~iva~tages o~ the City of Portsmouth in connection with the coming <br />session of the Southern Commercial Congress to be held a~ Norfolk, Virginia; maid sum to be <br />expended by the Council. of the City of Portsmouth or members of the committee~of Portsmouth Re- <br />presentatives to the said Southern Commercial Congress as the said Council m~y d~rect." <br /> <br /> The pmpers haV~no been read and discussed, the ~esolution w~s ~eferred to the Department <br />Finance. <br /> <br /> On motion also the Public Eelfa~e Department was. authorized to advertise for bids for ex- <br />tending'the wall of~the Omk Grove Cemetery so as to enclose the property lately acquired ~f Dr. <br />Joseph Guthrie for additional cemetery grounds. <br /> <br /> I~r. Morris moved that the Council reconsider its action on November lSth, whereby it had <br />d~~? p&y Messrs. Hutchins, Ro~inson,~and ~rown ~or their services ms registrars, until <br />the ~b~ct~one ma~le to the ~egistrat~on books had been settled. <br /> He s~Id his object w~s to pay the registrars now aud then request the Judge to adjust the <br />m~tter. ~ The motion to reconsider was lost. <br /> <br />On motion, adjou~.ned~ <br /> <br /> <br />
