Morgan, The minutes of the regUlar meeting November 14th, adjourned regular meeting November 17th, and adjourned regular meeting November 18th were rossi and were approved. The Department verbal report therefor: REPORTS OF DEPARTMENTS of ~Law submitted no written report, Refer~ed November l~th. but submitted the following A petition of John W. W. Cumming that the Council pass an ordinance regulating the manner and places in which the "Star Spangled Banner" may be played, sung or rendered. It is recommended that no action be t~ken on the petition at this time. To consider an ordinance regulating the City Cemeteries and fixing the duties of the Keep- er of Cemeteries; also to include the fixing of the salary of said Keeper and his Assistant, beginning January l, 1~I7. We report that we have considered this matter and it is recommended that the follow- ing ordin~nce be adopted to cover s~me: An Ordinance Rela~ing to the Keeper of the Cemeteries, Fixing ~he Time of his Election, his Term of Office, his S~lary and Duties; and also Fixing the Salary of the Assistant Cemetery Keeper. Referred October 31st. To draft an ordinance changing the names of the following streets in West Park View: Wil- son avenue ~o First avenue~ Guthrie to Second avenue; Spratley to West Villa; and Sale to West Leckie. It is recommended that the following ordinance be adopted covering such~changes in the names of s~Id Streets in West Park View: An Ordins~uce to Change ~he Names of Certain Streets in the City of Portsmouth. A communication from the Commissioner of the Bureau of Labor and Industrial Statistics with re~o~rd to adopting adequate fire escape ordinances. Progress as to same. To draft an ordinance covering the removal of dead horses from the streets, as recommend- ed by the Department of Public Service. It is recommended that the following ordinance be adopted therefor: An Ordinance Providing for the Remov&l f~om the City of Des~l Horses, Mules, Cows, and other Cattle and Large Animals or the Carcasses thereof. It is ~urther recommended that the following ordinance be adopted: An Ordinance to Amend Section 163 of the Municipal Code by Adding thereto t63(a) in Reference to the Duties of the Tenants ~z~i Occupants of Stalls in the Fish and'Vegetable Market in Seeing to its Clean- ly and Sanitary Condition, and to Prevent 0pen Fires therein. On motion, the report of the Department w~s adopted, the several recommended ordinances being ordered to lie on the table until the next .regular meeting of the body, under the rules. Public Service-- Referred November l~th. A petit'ion of the Seventh Ward Board for ~he City Engineer to submit figures for sewering the Seventh Ward at as early a date as possible.
