There being no objection, the following matters were considered: An mpplicmtion of the City Treasurer for mn increase in salary to~lO0~ per month wms~re- feared to the Fin~ce Department. Mr. Morgmn stated thmt the office of the City Engineer should havea separate phone from the office of the Mayor, and,on motion, the arrangement of phones in the Municipal Building was re~erred to the Public Property Department. Mr. Dashietl moved that m proposed ~ppropriation of $8,500. for purchase of new fire appa- rmtus be expended for increases in pay for the men of the Police and Fire Departments. The motion w~s adopted. . The mmtter of salary of the AsSistant Keeper-of the Cemeteries wms discussed an~, on motZon of ~r. Parrish~m special approprimt~cn of $~O. was allowed S. V. Sawyer, Assistant Keeper of the CemeterieS, in~ddition to his sal~y, on account of fees;taken from him durmng the months of November and December, 1916. Mr. Herbert brought up the matter of petition of the School Board for $7,20t.~? with which ~o pay running exPenses of the Schools for the month of December. . The City Treasurer, who was present, explained the request of the Board, and stmted~ that there is $~,O00. on h~nd to credit of the Schools. Then an appropriation of $3,201.~? was referred to the Department of Finance. On motion, ~ijourned.
