<br /> Each room fitted up for public exhibitions or entertainments to be ~sed for compensation,
<br />and not ~ the~tre~ $15.00,
<br />
<br /> Each dmmcing academy or dancing s~h0ol, $10.00.

<br /> Each slot machine of every description allowed by the laws of the State, $1.00, and the
<br />license for the s~me sh~ll be posted in front of the machine.

<br /> Emch bowling saloon, $10.00, mhd s~u additional tax of $10. for e~oh alley in excess of one.
<br />
<br /> Each billimrd, pool or bagatelle table, $20.00, and an additional tax of $15. on each table
<br />in excess of one.
<br />
<br /> Each skating rir~ or roller coaster, $iO. per month ~r p~rt.of the same.
<br />
<br /> Each shooting gmllery, $50.00, $2,50 per ~eek, or $15~ per quarter.

<br /> Emch itinerant musician, $1.00 per week or part ~hereof~
<br />
<br /> Each merry-go-round, or a~usement of like kind, $10. per week or part of ~ week,
<br />
<br /> Telegraph companies doing business in the City of Portsmouth and engaged in transmitting
<br />or receiving messages to a~d from points in the State of Virginia, excepting, however, tele~
<br />g~ams sent to or received by the Government of the United States, or of the Stmte of Virginim,
<br />or their officers or ~gents, sh&ll be divided into two classes, namely:

<br /> Such telegraph companies doing business in ~he City of Portsmouth hmving fifty or more'
<br />offices in the State of Virginia shall be placed in the first class a~ud shall pay ~ tax cZ $!00,
<br />in addition to mny other tax on the assessed v~lue of their property.
<br />
<br /> BUch telegraph companies doing business in the City of PortsmoUth h~ving less than fifty
<br />o£fices,in the State ~f Virginia, shall be placed in the second claes and shall pay m tax o£
<br />$75. in ~idition to mny other tax on the assessed value of their property.
<br />
<br /> In addition to the above tax, both classes of telegraph companies shall pay $1.50 for
<br />each telegraph pole they m~y own or use on the streets and alleys of the City of Portsmouth.
<br />
<br /> Each telephone company h~ving lines running through the City of Portsmouth, $500.00, and
<br />in s~idition 3 per cent, on the gross receipts of said company; provided, if there be any dis-
<br />crimin~tion in rates between the cities of Norfolk m~ud Portsmouth, the license tax eh~ll be
<br />$75o.oo,
<br />
<br /> Each at,orney at law or conveyancer, $20.00. All persons, other th~n duly licensed
<br />heys at ~aw, who for compensation or rewmrd shall prepare deeds~ contracts, wi~is or other writ-
<br />ings, shall be deemed conveymncers within the me~uing of this section.
<br />
<br />Each muctioneer, $50.00, This license ~h~ll include permission to sell real estate.
<br />
<br /> Each common crier, $30.00, but he sh~ll not as such crier give a~y evidence of sale or title
<br />to the purchase.
<br />
<br /> Each storage warehouse~or
<br />
<br /> Each photograph artist, $i0,00, The license may be issued quarterly.
<br />
<br /> Each person eauvassing ~or the purpose of enlarging photographs, $20,00,
<br />
<br /> Each livery stable, $!00.00,
<br />selling horses, mules, cattle or
<br />
<br /> Each cart house, $50.00o
<br />
<br /> Each person engaged in the business of stevedoring, using either horse or steam power,
<br />
<br /> or $5. per quarter~

<br /> This shall not include the privilege of hiring hearses, or
<br />stock.

<br /> Emch ca~ belonging to a street car company, $I0..00, in addition to the regui~r tax on the
<br />property of said company, unless provided by contract.

<br /> Each barber ehop~ ~lO. for two or three chairs; for each chmir over three, $2. additional.

<br /> E~oh physician, surgeon, optician, occulist, dentist, veterinary surgeon, osteopath, and
