<br />of members to the School Board to fill the s~pired terms as follows: First District (First,

<br /> ~nereupon, the Department of Public Safety recommended that the pay of the men in the
<br />Police Department be increased as ~o!~ows. Policemen, to ~.75 per day; Sergea~uts, to ~3.00
<br />per day, and Captains of Police, to $3~25 per day.
<br /> On motion, the recommendation was adopted, and by the following vote:

<br /> The Department recommended also that the pay of the men in the Fire D~oartment be
<br />creased as follows: F~e~n~ to $2.~5 per dmy~ and Engineers, to $3.00 per day.
<br /> On motion, said recommendation was adopted, ~nd by the ~ollowmng vote:

<br /> The Department of Finance recommended that a special approp=iation of $I~0i0~ be ml!ow-
<br />ed for increases in salaries of teachers, &c~, in the Public Schools, for th~ months of Septem-
<br />ber, October, November, ~ud December, 1917, as per the request of the School Board to the Coun-
<br />cil February i3th~
<br /> On motion, the recommended appropriation w~s ~llowed, a~d by the following vo~e:

<br /> The Dep~-~tment of Public ~ars recommended that the pay of the laborers in the City
<br />Cemeteries be increased to $2.00 per day~ and same w~s adopted by the ~ol~ow~ng vote:

<br /> The Department of Public Service recommended the following increases in pay of men
<br />under %he Department{ That laborers at the ~ncinerator be increased to $2~00 per ds.y; street
<br />l~nds, to $2.20 per any; and ihs Rodmmn to the City En~neer be increased by $5. per month.
<br /> On motion, the recommendations were adopted a~d by the following vote, the vote being

<br />On motion, it was resolved that all of said increases of pay be~_n Nay iet~ 1917.

<br /> ~r. Herbert sta~ed that he understood there w~s no objection to smy of the members
<br />whose terms hmd expired aud he moved that all of zhem be re-elected~
<br /> The motion was adopted ~nd they were all re-elected by the following vote, the vote
<br />being the same for each:

<br /> At this point, Nrc Dmshieil msked if it was the intention of the Council that pclioemen
<br />and firemen whose pay was increased should lose their ten dmys leave of absence with pay.
<br /> ~Ir. Eorris moved t?~t further consideration of that matter be deferred.
