Messrs~ Herbert and Bunting opposed this view. Considerable discussion <br />ensued ~n the matter. <br /> Finally, ~. Dashieli moved as the sense of the body that the Manager h~i the right to <br />dismiss the Chief without consulting the Council therefor. <br /> The motion was adopted by ~ vo~e of 3 ~o 2. <br /> <br /> ~. ~nting then requested the Ea~u&ger to give his reasons for dismissing the Chief. <br /> st~te~ ~nat he had ~ismissed ~he Chief for Incompetence, Insubordination, <br /> The M~uager ~ ~ ~' <br />and Neglect of Duty. <br /> <br /> Er. Bunting moved that the E~nager be requested to give his reasons in writing a~ the next <br />meeting of the Council. The motion w~s adopted. <br /> Theex-c~me~,~' * who was present,~ was asked mleo to give his mnswer in writinE. <br /> <br /> On mo~ion of Er. ~orris, the City Attorney was instructed to give his opinion as to ieg~i- <br />lty of the Council investigating the action of the City ~anager in removing the Chief of the <br />Fire Department from office, <br /> <br /> On motion, i~ was decid~m to meet Tuesaay night next to hear from the Na~ager and the <br />Chief in the matter. <br /> <br /> At this point, the City Na~ager stated that it w~s absolutely necessary to install a 12, <br />pipe line Zrom the property of the Portsmouth Contractors Supply Co. across Perry avenue to the <br />catch basin on Glasgow streets and on motion, the City Ean~ger w~s authorized to spend $360. <br />for said pipe line, out of Sixth ~ard £unds, by the following vote: <br /> ~Ayee~-Bunting, Cl~ud, <br /> Dashi~ll, Hanvey, Herbert, Eorrie, 6~ ' <br /> <br />On motion, adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
