P. Cl~ud, Jno. A. Morris, T, A, Bunting, <br /> <br />The following directions were read for the speciml meeting: <br /> <br />~Portsmouth, Va,, June 16th, 1917, <br /> <br />"City Clerk, City. <br /> <br />,Dear Sir:-- <br /> "You will please call a speoiai conference <br /> <br />Council Chamber ~onday, June 18th, at 8 o'clock P. E. <br /> <br />of the City <br /> <br />Council in the <br /> <br />"Very truly, <br /> ~J. T. Hanvey~ President," <br /> <br /> The "cmil~ having been read, on motion of Er. <br />the investigation of the ~ction of the Acting Chief <br /> <br />Herbert, the Council decided ~e oonaider <br />of Police mud the Civil & Police.;Justiee. <br /> <br /> A~ter some discussion of ~he mam~er~ Nr. Morris moved that the ~ayor be instructed <br />to personally reprimamd the Civil & Police Justice for his violent language ~ud conduct mt <br />the Police headquarters 5nd that the Civil & Police Justice ~e instructed ~o keep informed <br />on all City ordinauces.which carry a penalty. <br /> The motion w~s adopted, <br /> <br />On motion of Er. D~shiell, the City Em~ager w~s instructed to inform the Acting Chief <br />of Police that the Council held him blameless cf the chmrge~aihst$1h~,;C~vlt~&~.PoIiee~Justice, <br />but that he was indiscreet in his criticisms of the' decision ~ ~he Court. - <br /> <br /> At this point, Er. Herbert mov~-'that the Council consider at this ti~e the comDtainte <br />of the Volunteer Fir~en's Association~ ms specified in its letter to the members o~ the <br />Council concer?ning the action of the City Manager, a~.d that the City E~uage~ be heard on the <br />subject. The'motion was =dopted. <br /> <br /> The ~' · <br /> ~mty Nanager explained his position with regard to the several fire compa~umes,and, <br />after some discussion of same by members of the Council, the' body stood adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
