June 28, 191?. special meeting of the City Cguncil June 28th there were present: Messrs--T. A. Bunting, M. P. Claud, J. T. Hanvey, C. H. Herbert, W. H. Culpepper, 5. City Nanager T. B. Shertzer. The following directions were read for the specia~l meetin$ "Mr. L. P. Slatsr, "City Clerk, City. "Dear Sir:-- "You will please "Portsmouth, Va., June 26th, 1917. call a special meeting of the City Council for Thursday, Vao~ June 28th, at 8 o'clock P. M., to meet m~o0mmittee from the City Council of Suffolk, for a discussion of the 'w~ter question.' "Very truly, "J. T. Hanvey, President." The following committee were present from Suffolk: J. W. Hosier, President; Dr. H. W. Campbell, C. O. H~rell, Dr. L. C. Holland, J~. M. Butler, W. H. Davis, and City Attorney Lipscomb. The City Attorney of Portsmouth explained the water condition, and he w~s followed by the City Attorney of Suffolk with his views on the matter. Then the matter w~s discussed generally by the committee from Suffolk and the members~ of the Portsmouth Council. Nm. Claud wished to know of the Suffolk Committee if they had any suggestions to make _ about the conditions. Mr. Hosier replied that his body desired to know particularly what the Portsmouth Co,- oil is going to do and he suggested a joint committee for a discussion of the ~ter questi~n. ]~hsreupon, Mr. Bunting moved tha~ a committee from this Council be appointed by the to confer with a similar committee from Suffolk. The.motion was adopted. ~ne Chair appointed Eessrs. Bunting, Culpepper and Herbert to consider the water ques- tion with the following committee from the Suffolk Council: Dr. Campbell, Butler, Hosier. On motion, it was decided that the committee from this Council would meet the committee from Suffolk in Suffolk at 8 o'clock Friday next. the body stood adjourned.
