T. Hanvey and Gentlemen <br /> of the Council, <br /> <br />"Portsmouth, <br /> <br />Va., July 10th, 1917. <br /> <br /> "Gentlemen:-- <br /> "I would hand you herewith the deed for the property affected by the pro- <br />posed Gs~uder Creek Harbor Lines which has been signed by Mr. Williams. <br /> <br /> "I would call to the attention of the Council the fact that Mr. W. L. Walker has not as <br />yet handed the City Property in his possession over to the City. <br /> <br /> ~I would report to the Council that both of the new Triple combination machines for the <br />Fire Department have been received and tested. One of them has been accepted, the new ladder <br />truck has been received and tested and accepted, the tractor for the Chambers engine has been <br />received, attached, tested and accepted. <br /> <br /> uI would report to the Council that the cost of repaying Water street, f~om Queen to and <br />including the crossing at London stre~ will be about $800.00. <br /> <br /> "I have instructed Mr. W. ~. Smith to be present at the meeting tonight <br />questions of the Council in connection with the bills rendered for purchases <br />last year. <br /> <br />to answer the <br />in his department <br /> <br /> "I have advertised for bids for the purchase of the horses in the Fire Department and <br />~ubmit the same to the council with.~ his report. <br /> <br /> "I submit herewith the report of the financial condition of the City, the expenditures <br />for the past six months ~ud the future needs of the City as required by the Act creating the <br />City Manager form of government. <br /> <br />"The Seaboard Ry. has been instructed to raise the watch box at the corner of Washington <br />Race streets and has replied that the work will be done as soon as possible. <br /> <br /> · The Street Inspector has been instructed to have the t~ee a~ the same corner removed as <br />soon as possible. <br /> <br />"Tyrrell. B. Shertzer, <br /> City Manager.~ <br /> <br /> With regard to the G~uder Creek H~rbor Lines, the City Clerk was instructed to have the <br />deed for the O. L. Williams' property put to record and the map, submitted by the City Engi- <br />neer, sent to the Board of Hs~vbor Commissioners. <br /> <br /> The matter of City property held by W. L. Walter, former High Constable, was referred.to <br />the Department of Public S~fety to report as to same at the next meeting of the Council. <br /> <br /> The matter of payment for the fire apparatus ~ich has been received, tested, and accept- <br />ed w~s referred to~he Finmnce Department. <br /> <br /> The privilege of the floor was g~anted to Er. Harper, representing the Portsmouth Cham- <br />ber of Commerce, in the interest of relaying. Water street. <br /> Mr. Harper spoke and urged the ~eoessmty for the repavement .of said ~treet. <br /> Finally, on motion, the matter w~s referred to the Public Service and Finance Departments. <br /> <br /> With regard to the bills against Nr. W. <br />last year, Mr. Dashiell moved that the matter be ta~.en up and disposed of. <br /> The motion w~s adopted. <br /> <br />Smith rendered for purchases in his Department <br /> <br /> The letters from Mr. Smith and the letter from the City Manager with ~egard to <br />were re~d.
