July ~6, 1917 <br /> <br />At a special meeting of the City Council July 26th there were present: <br /> <br />~essrs--T. A. Bunting, N. P. Claud, Oscie Dashiell, <br /> J. T. N~nvey, C. H. Herbert, Jno. I. Norris, 6. <br /> <br />The following directions were read for the special meeting: <br /> <br />"Portsmouth, Va., July 25, l~l?. <br /> <br />"Er. L. P. Siater, <br /> <br />~City Clerk, City. <br /> <br />,Dear Sir:-- <br /> "You will please call a special meeting of the City Council for Tau sday, <br /> <br />July 26th, at ?:30 P. N., to consider applications for the position of.City Eanager of Ports- <br /> <br />mouth, Va. <br /> <br />"Very truly~ <br /> <br />"J. T. Hanvey, P~es$,, <br /> <br /> The "call. h~ving been read, Er. Herbert moved as follows: That each applica~ut's name <br />he'read out and that same be referred to the Council as a whole to consider said applications <br />and report at a meeting to be called for ~aturaay night ?:30, a~ud at which meeting the Oity <br />Eanager will b~ elected. <br /> <br /> Er. Dashiell moved to amend, That advertisemsn~ be further made for Eanager and that <br />election of s~me be taken up at later d~me. <br /> <br /> ~r. Eorris moved to amend by the following resolution: <br /> "~aereas, The City of Portsmouth <br /> ~ ~ secure the best <br />is seeking a C~ty Eanager to fill a v~cancy, and whereas, it is necessary ~o <br />qualified man possible for the position, and it also appears that sufficient publicity has <br />not been ~iven to the advertisement, <br /> "%~erefore, Be it Resolved, That an advertisement be inserted in the Eanufacturers Jour- <br />nal and En¢ineering News ~nd that applications bs on file with the Clerk of the Council not <br />later than twelve o'clock of ~mgu8t 15th, 191?." <br /> <br />The amendment by Er. <br /> <br />Eorris was lost by the following vote: <br /> For--Eorrie, Dashi~ll, <br /> Against--Bunting, Claud, Hanvey, Herbert, ~. <br /> <br />The~ tbs motion by Er. H~rbert was <br /> <br /> N~. Claud moved that the mpplioations for the position of City Es~uager be requested to <br />appear befors the body ~turd~y night to state their views ~s to duties of a City Nanager~ <br />especially in ~elation to s~me for the City of Portsmouth. <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> <br />On motion, adjourned. <br /> <br /> <br />
