A. Eorrie a~ Oscie Dashiell as members of the City Council, to <br />take effect at once, were rea~ and were accepted. <br /> <br /> A communication was read from the Liberty Loan Committee, inviting the N~yor <br />of the Council to take part in the "snow ball" parade to be held on October Z~th, <br />invitation was accepted with thanks. <br /> <br /> Petitions were read from the Police Department for an increase in salary to $100. per <br />month, of the Eagineers and Firemen at the Sewer Power House for an increase by $I0. per month, <br />and of the paid,men of the Fire Department~for ~n increase to~ $100, per month. <br /> On mo,!on, the petitions were re~errea to the 'City Eanager. <br /> <br /> Er. Herbert moved to re,er to the Fiance Department an appropriation of <br />ing the Police Force temporarily by one man for two months. <br /> The motion w~s adopted. <br /> <br />$50. for increas- <br /> <br />On motion, adjourned. <br /> <br />October 25, 1917 <br /> <br />At a special meeting of the City Council October 25th there were present: <br /> <br />Eessrs--J. T. Hanvey, T. A. Bun~mn=, M. P. Claud, C. H. Herbert <br /> Also the City ~anager. <br /> <br /> The President of the bo~y stated that the object of the meeting was to instruct the <br />~anager to ~ppear before the Board of H~rbor Commissioners on October 26th, and to transact <br />such other business as m~y be necessary, <br /> <br /> Ths City Nanager stated his,cor~"erence with ~. R. A. Hutohins, Jr., of the Board of <br />Harbor Commissioners, in regard to the hmrbor lines of Ga~er Cre~k and the lines at the end <br />of Wmter, ~iddle, Court and Dinwiddie streets; and the City Eanager requ~ested authority to <br />appear before the Co~ission. <br /> <br /> Vner~apon, ~ir. Claud moved: "That the City Mar~ger is hereby instrected to appear <br />before the Hmrbor Commission on October 26, 19!7, for the purpose of requesting the City of <br />Portsmouth, ~irginia, in regard to establishing the h~rber lines'along G~nder Creek; also to <br />establish the harbor line ms near as possible along the low water line, from the end of the <br />present wharf at the end of W~ter street, if extended on the nerth side, thence westerly <br />crossing the ends of Eiddle, Court and Dinwiddie streets as they now end, thence northerly <br />along the line of the w~lkway in a general direction if extended to the property of the <br />Government known as the United States Naval Hospltal~" <br /> The motion was adopted. <br /> <br />There being no further business~ <br /> <br />the body adjourned, <br /> <br /> <br />
