Hanvey, President." <br /> <br />Herbert moved that a conm0~ttee of three be appointed to <br /> <br />cons%der the advisability of anuexLug Port Ndrf~tk, Pinners PoLut, and other sub~~ ~o the <br />City of Portsmouth to confer with representatives of said territory- as to terms, &c., s~d to <br />report its findings to the Couuoil. <br /> Tbs motion'was adopted, ~ud the Chair appointed Messrs. Tax Cu~mittee, Virginia <br />Municipal ~League, statm~g that the "~est Bill~ aivmding tax on intangibles fifty for localities <br />and fifty for~State, would come up for passage Lu the Ho~se of Del?~ates on Pebr~ 26th. <br /> On motmon, the body endorsed the Wes~ ~axBill, and the C~y Clerk was mnstructed to <br />write out'representative in the House of Delegates ~nd request him to support maid bill. <br /> The City Clerk and Auditor was instructed to go to Richmond in behalf of said bill. <br /> <br /> The City Manager requested the Council to allow ~treet pavers an increase of pay <br />per day~ pending report f~om the Finance Dep~tment on the subject, <br /> On motion of Mr. Herbert, the City Manager's request was adopted. <br /> <br />to .so <br /> <br /> Mr. Herbert presented the followLug resolution, which was adopted: <br /> "Resolved, That the <br />City Treasurer he a~d he is hereby authorifed by the Presidentof the Council of the City of <br />Portsmeutk, Va., ~nd the C~hairman of the Dep~tment of Finance~ to make notes withsue~- <br />or persons as are willing to discount the s~me to ~mount of Thirty-five~Thousand Dolings ($85,000)~ <br />for ninety d~vs, to meet payment on land p~chased for a cemetery. <br /> "This instruction is given in accordance with a resolution adopted by the Council of the <br />Cmty of ~orts~outh, a., February 28, 1918,'and pursuant to an ordinance adootedby the Coup_oil <br />of the C~y of Portsmouth, Va., Septembe~ 1, 1916." ~ <br /> <br />And by the <br /> <br />fo~lowir~ vote: <br /> <br />&yes--BuntLug~ Gl~ud, Culpepper~ Deans, Hanvey% <br /> Herbert~ ~. <br /> (Mr. '~right voting present). <br /> <br />On motion, adjourned. <br /> <br />C]'P[ CL£~K AND AUDITOR, <br /> <br /> <br />
