Bates, City Manager." <br /> <br /> On motion, the two co~J~mications were referred to the Department of Public Safety to <br />consult with the City Nan~ger and City Attorney as to the mat%er. <br /> <br /> The Bpecial Water Co~ittee reported ~'Progress" on the m~tter of contract for supplyLug <br />the City of Suffolk width water. <br /> <br /> The said Con~v~ttee recommended the adoption of a contract between the Government and City <br />with the Atlantic Coast Line RY~ Co. for usin~ the r&i!~ay right of way near S~t~folk for the <br />~0'~ wood pipe~at $~0. per annum, as per the request of the Superintendent of the ~ater Depart- <br />ment therefor. <br /> On motion, the contract was adopted and the proper City Officials ~structed to sign <br /> <br /> The Department of Finance reported "Progress" on the proposed increase of salaries and <br />wages of City =~oloyees. <br /> <br />On motion, <br /> <br />ad jotmned. <br /> <br />Au~st 12th, 1919 <br /> <br />At a teen!ar ~eeting of the City '~ Aug_st !2th there were present: <br /> <br />Massrs-- ~.~i B~uting, ~. Wright, 7o <br /> <br /> The minutes of theb~egutar meeti~ July .16th and special meetings July 18th and <br />were read and were approved. <br /> <br />REPORTS <br /> <br />OF DEPARTMEntS <br /> <br />No report. <br /> <br />July 29t~h <br /> <br /> Public Service-- <br /> Presentee the ~oilowing ordinance, which, ~na r the rul~s, was ordered <br />to lie on the table until the next regular meeting of the body, and Was referred ~t0 the DePart- <br />ment of Law and City Attorney: <br /> An Ordinance to Establish and Define Building Lines According <br />to Deeds of Conveyance, and Upon Petition of Property Owners, and Defining the Duty of the City <br />Engineer in Reference Thereto and Penalty for Violation Thereof. <br /> <br /> Pending the adoption of the above ordinance, the Department recommended the adoption of <br />the following resolution; and the resolution wa~ adopted: <br /> "RESOLED, That the City ~nager and <br />the City Engineer be and a~e hereby instructed not to give building lines in Port Norfolk where <br />the deed places such building line back from the str~e~ line, except to conform with the pro- <br />visions of the deed." <br /> <br />Public PropePty-- <br /> NO report. <br /> <br /> Public Safety-- <br /> Recommended that the ".~hite Way~ be placed on Orawford street, from London <br /> 'd <br />-to South streets, and that appropriation for same be referre to the Finance Department~ <br /> <br />On motion, the recor~mendation was adopted, <br /> <br /> The Deparl~ent offered the following resolution with regard to the proposed increase in <br />~rates by The Chesapeake & Potomac Telephone Co., which was adopted: <br /> "WHE~S, i~h.e· rates of <br /> phone service have been lately increased in this City tn a~ounts rar~ir~ from 3V to 133%, and <br /> <br /> "WHEBF~S, The service given this City by ~ne ~Chesapsake & Potomac Telephone Co. has not <br />been nor is it now satisfactory, and <br /> <br />The Telephone Company has been oetltion G to appoint a local n~nager for Ports- <br /> <br /> <br />
