<br /> The "call" having been read, the first matter oonside~ed ~as the proposed franchise
<br />for the Portsmouth-Suffolk Bus Corporation.

<br /> Whereupon, Mr. Hall moved that the following paragrmph be added to Section 3:

<br /> Mr. Esleeck moved to amend that wherever the words "Port~mouth-Suffolk Bus C6rporation,
<br /> to
<br />or "Bus Corporation" occur ~ blank space be left, ~be filled in by the name of the successful
<br />bidder for the franchise. The amendment was a~op~ed,
<br />
<br /> Mr. Brooke moved to amend by adding the following paragraph Zo Section 2: "The City of
<br />Portsmouth reserves the right to m~dl~y the schedule whenever it deems necessary."
<br /> The amendmen~ was adopted.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Brooks moved to amend by adding the following paragraph to the third paragraph of
<br />the franchise: "The City of Portsmouth reserves the right to change the route herein designated
<br />to such street or streets as it may consider best suited £or the route,"
<br /> The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> / Mr. Esleeck moved that the word "passenger" be added after the word "automobile" on the
<br />first page, and after words "establishing a" on the last page. The amendmen~ was adopted.

<br />Mr. Broo~s moved to ~mend by adding the following paragraph to section 3: "That the
<br />privilege is given to carry p~roels and charge for same at such ~ate as agreed upon between
<br />and City Manager, b~t no charge shall be made for parcels carried by
<br />passengers." The amendment was adopted.

<br />Mr. Esleeck moved to reconsider the matter of reserving the right to modify the schedu~le.
<br /> The motion was adopted.
<br />
<br /> On motion, the privilege of the floor ~as granted to Mr. Parker, who spoke against modify-
<br />the sohedule~
<br />
<br /> Then Mr. Brooks moved that the franchise be adopted, as amended,
<br />as amended by the following vote:
<br /> Ayes-- Brooks, Eeleeok~ ~mith, Hall,

<br />and same was adopted,
<br />Hutchins, Oast, 6.
<br />
<br /> Mr. Esleeok moved that the receiving of bids for the franchise be advertised in-the
<br />Poxtsmouth Sta~ once ~ week for four successive weeks, and that the bids be opened at the re~
<br />gular meeting July lZth. The motion w~s adopted.

<br /> Whereupon, the following communication was read from the City Manager concerning same:

<br /> "It is recommended thmt Leckie Street from Williams street to the edge of the small tri-
<br />butary of Sootts Creek between West Ps~rk View and Park View, be opened.
<br />
<br /> "This will involve the purchase of a tria~ular piece of property from Mrs. Butler on the
<br />~outh side of Leckie Street, and the purchase ~ ~ ~,, ~ ~ ~ ~ ¢~m ~r. Owens,
