Hutchins, Jr., President." <br /> <br /> The following matters on the table were taken up: <br /> <br /> The following ordinance, which had been placed on its first reading December 27th, was <br />continued on the table. <br /> Au Ordinance to Amend s~nd Re-ordain Section 2 of "An Ordinance P~e- <br />scribing the Number of Jitneys to Operate on each Jitney Route, a~d Fixing a Schedule Therefor." <br /> <br /> The following ordinance, which had be en plmced on itc first reading December 27th, was <br />t~ken up, read, and on motion of Mr.~ Esleeck, adopted: <br /> AN ~DINANCE TO AMEND AND RE-ORDAIN <br />SECTION 10~ "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING LICENSE FEES, RULES AND REGULATIONS FOR THE OPERATION <br />OF JITNEYS ..IN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH." (See Ordinance Book). <br /> And by the .following vote: <br /> Ayes-- Esleeck, H~ll, Hutchins, Smith, White, 5. <br /> <br /> The regular reports of the City Tream~rer, City Collector, and City Clerk & Auditor were <br />presented s~ud were referred t~the Finance Committee. <br /> <br /> A request was read from the City Attorney that Council make available the sum of $5,000. <br />to pay for ls~ud of Miss Virginia M. Cooke for the purpose of extending Cooke street; and the <br />s=m of $50.00 needed to purchmse a small piece of land from J. F. Bmrganier for the opening <br />of Leckie street. <br /> On motion, there~uest was referred to the Finance Committee. <br /> <br />(Present Mr. Brooks) <br /> <br /> A communication~was read from ~he License Inspector explaining to Council the position <br />of Mr. Ginsberg, Manager of the City Bottling Works, with reference to the other ~ottling <br />works, who sell soft ~inks in the City. ~r. Ginsberg's petition to be refunded $151.00 Paid <br />for selling Soft drinks at wholesale,mmBmitted to the Council a few months ago, was not grante~ <br /> On motion, the communication was referred to the Finance Committee. <br /> <br /> A request of the City Collector that the following tax payers be refunded money paid in <br />error, as corrected, by the Board of Review, was refer~ed to the Finance Committee: Willie H. <br />A Ruth Staples, $I6.
