<br />MERCHANTS.
<br />
<br /> On every license to a merchant or mercantile firm there shall be paid a specific lioens~
<br />tax of $26'.00 and a~ additional tax of 7 per cent on the annual rental vmlue of the olace of
<br />business. ~
<br />
<br /> Me~ohan~ tailors, lumber merchants, furniture merchants, baker~, 6ommission merchants,
<br />butchers, green gro~ers, hucksters and dealers in seal, ice, wood or soft drinks shall be em-
<br />braced in this section.
<br />
<br /> The ta~ hereby imposed shall be in lieu of all tax upon c&pital actually employed by said
<br /> merchant or mercantile firm on said business, ~ud shall be paid when the license is issued.
<br />
<br /> Every merchant, firm or corporation applying for a license shall be required to produce
<br /> a bon~ fide rent receipt, agreemen~ or check, showinE the amount of rent paid per month or
<br /> year by him or them, and, if in the judgmen~ of the Commissioner of the Revenue, he or they are
<br /> seeking to ev~de~the tax by not producing the proper.receipt, then the said Commissioner sh~ll
<br /> refuse ~o grant him or them the required license until he shall have investigated the applica-
<br /> tion therefor in order to ascertain the ~rue amount of rental paid by said ¢pplioant.
<br />
<br /> ~f the march,t, firm or corporation applying for a license own the place of business,.
<br />and, in the judgment of the Co~issioner of the Revenue, he or they do not put ~ proper rental
<br />:value on the property~ the said Commissioner shall have authority ~o investigate ~nd ascertain
<br />the true rental va&ua of'such property 5~fore gra~ting the application.
<br />
<br />~ERCHANTS (WHOLESALE).
<br />
<br />All merchants who do no~ sell ~o the consumer shall be deemed ~o be wholesale merohs~nts.
<br />
<br /> The rate of wholesale merchants shall be $51.00 minimum (allowing $50,000 purchases) and
<br />ten cents on each SlO0 of purchases abov~ $50,000 to $400,000. On all purchases above $~O0,000,
<br />the rate shall be five cenzs on each $100 of purchases.
<br />
<br />MUSICIANS (ITIERANT)
