<br />from the Prentis Park Patron's League, asking that the Council purchase the remaining lots on
<br />the block adjoining the Prentis Park School house. As ! (the ~nager) understand it, the Ninth
<br />Wa~d is willing to pay from its funds for this lot and the Harrison Wmmd League and the Prentis
<br />Park League agree to fence, beautify and improve the grounds by planting tress, shrubbery and
<br />providing be~ches and otherequipment indefinitely or until the' City feels able and disposed
<br />to co-operate with the community in its plan.,

<br /> 12th. ~ommunioation stating that "bids recently received for paving indicates that the
<br />oomt of concrete paving will be little if any more Ehman the cost of bi'tum~nous macadam. Ex-
<br />perience wi~h macadsm also indicates that on ma~y streets, if not all, in the City, the sub-
<br />grade is so i~nSeoure that it i~s impossible to properly roll the material. .i, ~herefore,
<br />quest that I !be ~utho~zed to use my discretion in substituting concrete for bituminous macadam
<br />on streets, the paving of which has been approved by the Council."
<br /> On motion of Mr. White, the ree~uest of the Manager was g~anted.

<br /> 13th. F~rwa~ds a petition from property owners on Middle street "that an imnroved system
<br />of street lighting be i~nstalled on' that street, between Queen and King, streets. -The cost of
<br />this i_nstallation with,~he bracket type of lamp,' the lamp being a single unl~ of a greater
<br />candle power than the ~ive unit system on High street, will be approximmtely $1~O0.00.
<br />
<br /> It is recommended that this petition be approved, provided~, the s~b~tting property owners
<br />contribute all funds needed in excess of ~i000.00 towards the ~nstallation. For this purpose
<br />~a special appropriation of $1000.00 from .the last bond issue is recommended.

<br /> I expect, as soon as information is received from the General Electric Company, to submit
<br />~n estimate ~nd recommendation for a similar installation on High street from Chestnut s~reet
<br />to the Belt Line and will probably recommend that the existing system on High street, between
<br />Ohestnu~ and ~ater streets, be replaced by the new system,"
