Brooks, the permission was granted~ subject tc the conditiozm stated <br />in the application. <br /> <br /> The following d0mmu~ication was received from N~. ~ouis Nmmgialetto: <br /> <br /> "Portsmouth, Va., December 29, 1922. <br /> ~The Honorable CiTy Council ef-the City of Portsmouth, Va. <br /> Portsmouth, Va. <br /> <br /> eGentlemen:- <br /> i have the honor to say that it is proposed by the authorities at Washington <br />to treat all workingmen who receive injuries at the Portsmouth, Virginia, n~y ys~rd, at Craney <br />Island, instead of at the Naval Hospital, Portsmouth, Virgimia. <br /> <br /> "It needs no comment from me to show the probable loss of life and the further <br />probability of unnecessazy suffering if such a proposal be adopted. <br /> <br /> ~I have been appointed by the ~ee Ward Social and Welfare Club to do all that <br />can be done to cause the abandonment of the proposal by the said authorities. <br /> <br /> "~O effect this, an~ to carry out my authority, I have taken the matter uP with ~ <br />Congressman Deal, with the request that he obtain the co-operation of Senator Swanson, if <br />necessary, Mr. Deal has promised his hearty support. ~ ~ now ask you, Sir, for your co-operation <br />tO this end. <br /> "Very truly, <br /> <br /> "Louis Mangialetto." <br /> <br /> Mr. Esleeck moved that the City Malinger do all in his power to have employees of the <br />Navy ~ard_receivi.~g injuries treated at the Naval Hospital, and to co~operateaiong this line <br />with ~ee ~a~iGlub.~. The motion was adopted. <br /> <br /> A petitiom was read from C. L. Cone and 1~9 others, that "Council cause to be submitted <br />to a vote the following question: The adoption and passage of an ordinance entitled CAN 0RDI- <br />NANCE FIXING THE TERMS OF CONSENT FOR THE OPERATION OF AU~0 BUSSES IN THE CITY OF PORTSMOUTH, <br />VIRGINIA, which was presented to Council on th~ fourteer~tday of September, 1~22, and which <br /> <br /> ~ m~ Ievocallon cz 2& eraxn~nces aha resolutions or parts thereof in conflict therewith." <br /> <br />~ motion of Mr. Esleeok, the privilege of the floor w~s granted to Mr. ~ajor, General <br />M~nmge= of the Portsmouth Auto Bus Association, who asked to be allowed to wi~thdraw the petition. <br /> Mr. Brooks moved that the request be granted.
